Hempfield supervisor switches to GOP (PA)

Hempfield Township Supervisor R. Douglas Weimer switched his registration to Republican from Democrat Monday. Weimer raised eyebrows last year when he campaigned door to door in support of fellow supervisor and new Republican Bob Regola, in Regola's successful run for the state Senate.

Weimer said his switch wasn't prompted by demographics or a desire to seek higher office in the same path that Regola followed.

"This really is a correction for me. My family has a history of Democratic registration. But when I became more involved politically, I came to a better understanding of my positions on local and national issues. This will better reflect my positions," he said.

Of course there is -- the western one, where I live, and the other one out east. There was some sport, girls volleyball or something, where the two nearly met in the state finals last year.

It was our Hempfield band in the Rose Bowl parade 3 days ago.

Yeah, they put on a good show. First band from Westmoreland county to ever be in the parade. The announcers on TV made note of the fact that the trip was financed in large part by the sale of some 140,000 hoagies over the last year.
