Very nice article. I have been wondering what GW's approval rating is recently. Of course, it will never go up in Europe ... but here, I hope.

I like this part:

Dashing public information officers ("Call me Smack") make out lists with names, only to immediately throw them out again and then, full of bravado, bark at the reporters.

New Zealand was also one of the countries doing active search and recovery, which proves your point even further.

And to think Bush was criticized for trying to upstage the UN in Indonesia.

If the UN, and by extension the EU, were in charge of rescue operations, the Indonesians would still be waiting for procurement to come out of committee with of addresses of suppliers allowed to bid for delivery of bananas with proper EU curvature.

One would hope that those who champion UN control over national control would undergo some type of life-changing revelation after this event, but I'm not holding my breath.

Oh B.S., You mean we don't have any stick on, peel off flags for our aircraft and troops. I rather think we are still running a P.C. operation. Don't want to offend anyone.

I can't help wonder if this German writer might at least have some sense of history.
E.g., the Berlin Airlift...

I thought the same thing.

I answered a ping by writing that the article will cause older Germans to think back on the GI's after WW II and the Berlin airlift.

I can't remember if it was on this thread, or the one the day before:

Free Republic....US-Navy Flying Aid, German Army Still Looking Things Over"

The Europeans can say all they want to about massive sums of money for "rebuilding" (a giant waste machine)...but those little villagers in Thailand and Sri Lanka...know who is bringing them water each day...and setting up tents...and dumping food on their front doorstep...and its not Europe. They are surviving right now because of what the US is doing...pure and simple. They will remember us 20 years from now when they talk of the great flood...and what the Americans did to help them. Life is fair...we get our payback now...and the Europeans can't say a word. Even Ossama looks like a dog when Muslims in the Pacific say thanks for clean drinking water coming from a US Marine.

"Even Ossama looks like a dog when Muslims in the Pacific say thanks for clean drinking water coming from a US Marine."

God bless the US Marine Corps.

One can only believe that the EU/UN are there to skim their cut off the massive amounts of aid like they did before in Iraq. Their leopard hasn't changed it's spots.
