A Chicago-area woman who suffers from Graves' disease filed a federal lawsuit Wednesday alleging that soul singer James Brown was to blame for her ailment because he raped her in 1988. The suit seeks $106 million in compensatory damages, mostly for physical and emotional distress, and additional, unspecified punitive damages from Brown and his business.

Graves disease is a thyroid problem. It's also very treatable. how the hell is the rape responsible?
Wasnt he in jail at the time?
now if it were the clap or the HIV or something, that might be something....
but Graves isn't caused by an STD or anything is it?
Isn't it easier to keep track of the times he's not?
I thought you were referring to "The First Black President."
This is a summary about James Brown from IMDB.com:

He was voted the 7th Greatest Rock 'n' Roll Artist of all time by Entertainment Weekly.
No, he wasnt in jail at the time. This woman contacted me last year after I wrote an article about Brown's domestic abuse problems. She is very believable.
Doesn't really matter if she's believable. This isn't a criminal rape trial. This is her claiming that her overactive thyroid was caused by a rape 16 years ago. My guess is she's hoping for a few quick bucks.
HIT ME BAND!!
Loser Pays should be an integral part of any tort reform.
another gold digger...
only problem, "The Godfather of Soul" can't even afford to pay attention these days...
if ya gonna sue somebody, ya might want to make sure they got bank...
But notice it says she also sued his business. Somehow I doubt James Brown was "on the job" when this happened. But I'm not sure when the rape occurred or even if this particular company was around back then.
I have heard the details and as a journalist, I found her to be very credible. She has also been interviewed by the district attorney's office there, who told me her story was believable. They decided they didn't have enough evidence to prosecute and that there was a statute of limitations problem. Sometimes rape victims are too traumatized to come forward, especially if their alleged attacker is famous. Back in 1988, I interviewed Adrienne Brown, Brown's then wife, after he had beaten her. I will never forget those bruises as long as I live. I wouldn't be so quick to say that this current woman is just in it for the money. When you can't get satisfaction from a criminal trial, as Nicole Brown Simpson's family could not get against OJ Simpson, sometimes a civil suit is the only way.
Talk about hitting a man when he's down...
Her impossible claim makes her totally unbelievable and raises doubt about your judgment. If she were raped it would have nothing to do with causing this disease as others have pointed out. Thus, her claim is laughable. What next is she going to claim rape caused tooth decay?
Well, it seems that he is STILL the hardest working man in show business!
