I was a Brigade ALO during Gulf War I and got my 101st right shoulder flash during that conflict. Wore it on my flight suit and desert BDU's. Not regulation when not assigned FAC/ALO duty, but I DIDN'T CARE. I earned it and was proud of it. (Did turn some Army heads, however, when they noticed an Air Force guy with a 101st patch on his BDU's. You could hear them thinking; "What the. . .what's that guy wearing that patch for. . .he's Air Force."

I don't get the impression that Kerry is stumping for 2008, rather he seems to be stumping to take over the power role that Ted Kennedy fills as one-time Presidential Candidate/Senior Democrat. Ted is getting pretty old and one of his many acoltyes will take over eventually.
