Do you think people shouldn't have the right to explore controversial things in their art? All tragedies make you sympathise with unsympathetic people from Macbeth to Lolita.

In the blue-state mindset, politics and religion are synonymous.

It's political all right -- for those who interpret their religious identity in political terms. Bill Donohue is being scolded for saying as much. Really, the man has no manners. No wonder he shocks the polite.

"Macbeth to Lolita."

I'll defend to the death their RIGHT, as you put it. But when they try to make me sympathize with a pedaphile - a destroyer of innocents - they can count me out of their box-office haul.

As Macbeth makes one sypathise with a murderer and Lolita with a pedophile etc. I understand your point but if there isn't some redeeming feature about a character, no matter how fallen, then you have a straw man incapable of generating drama.

I agree. I thoroughly dissapprove of The Woodsman, but I agree with your point. And in reality, nobody in life has sunk so low that they can't come forward later and redeem themselves - though it takes a lot to redeem some things.
