London 07.01.05 | Prensa Latina reports today that the lawyer of arrested FARC leader Ricardo Granda informed that Granda had both Colombian and Venezuelan citizenship. Lawyer Miguel Gonzalez expressed that his client is Colombian by birth and Venezuelan by adoption, whatever that means. Furthermore, Gonzalez is quoted saying that Granda did not need entry permits to Venezuela for he resides in that country. Granda's Venezuelan ID number was mentioned by his lawyer as 22.118.142.

You might want to add a little commentary as to the significance of this. It's pretty opaque if you're walking in cold.
This might be something that blows the lid off Venezuela supporting the FARCs in Columbia.
The significance is rather clear, i.e. Colombian guerrila leaders from the FARC have deep connections with Hugo Chavez and members of his administration. This is not something new, we have denounced this for quite sometime, although the arrest of such an important terrorist, whilst in Caracs as guest of Chavez' Bolivarian celebrations, points at the fact that these criminals roam around in Venezuela completely free. Moreover, they participate in meetings with high government officials and are granted Venezuelan citizenship!!
Let me put that in perspective: imagine that a close collaborator of Usama Bin Laden gets caught in Washington DC by a non-American police force whilst attending, as a guest of honour, some sort of celebration organized, hosted and sponsored by the Republican party, not with private funds though but at tax payer's expense. Furthermore, picture that said criminal has been granted US citizenship, by the neocons, and has been living in the US for a number of years, where he has maintained a close relationship with the highest spheres of power.
Does that sounds logic to you?
Thanks. The situation with Chavez is troubling, and Carter's whitewash of their elections sure didn't help things.
