You ain't wrong.
IMO This is the real issue here. The fact that these documents were so obviously fraudulent would make CBS the perpetrator or, at the least, a co-conspirator in the promulgation of this hoax.
DR was certainly the main perpetrator in this
fiasco, but do not forget Mary Mapes hand in
it all.
Once the "report" is published, CBS becomes fair game
for any criminal investigator on the planet. Fear not....someone will be writing an expose in the form
of a book!
My question relates to the why's and outcomes of CBS's
Honchos going to Washington DC this past week.
This kind of thing is one of the biggest threats to our republic and should be dealt with accordingly..
Now we have proof.
Starting with the TANG address ... P.O. Box 23456 on the header. CBS simply was leading the way in the MSM's attempt to derail Bush's reelection bid. Bush came out of the Republican convention with a big bump, unlike Kerry, and at that point the liberal media went to full throttle Bush bashing mode.
Bird cage material, so not totally useless.... :-)
Here's what it comes down to. If the report and investigation are useless, shareholders have a legal claim, and potential criminal charges may be pursued.
Under both Sarbanes Oxley, and several SEC legal grounds, whoever is responsible for the investigation could end up in a Federal "Hotel" just like Martha Stewart.
Martha Stewart's situation was NOT assessed through Sarbanes Oxley, AND one of the key issues against Martha Stewart was her public statements that misled investors.
CBS COULD END UP GUILTY OF THE SAME THINGS!

Would anyone hire a couple of 70 year old retirees to hunt down a story like this ? Only if they wanted it swept under the rug...
All these excellent points by Powerline will be ignored and swept under the rug by all the liberal MSM as they rush to exonerate CBS and Rather's Radical Recking Crew.
Don't believe for a second that they will point out any holes in either methodology or conclusions--or in the ability of the geriatric 'investigators' to arrive at a conclusion that whitewashes the whole sorry mess.
Some low level editor has been let go, but has since found a higher paying job at a CBS affiliate.
The things said about Bush were most likely true, so this scandal in no way tarnishes Dan Rather's stellar career.
The whole CBS debacle has been ridiculous, the time and money spent by republicans to blame Democrats for these documents.
You are definitely too stupid to be on this website. This phoney investigation was paid for by CBS, not republicans or taxpayers.
I guess you like your news manufactured, but most of us consider such blatant attempts to influence a presidential election unethical. Of course, as a liberal, you are not familiar with the concept of ethical. You most likely voted for a known rapist. Twice.
Dick Thornburg before he Dicks you.
Darn, I did a search and came up with nothing so I posted this , too. Is this article on the money or not? This investigation will prove to be the "powerful protecting the powerful", an O'Really theme with which I agree.
