Report Confirms U.N. Congo Sex Abuse

UNITED NATIONS — U.N. peacekeepers in Congo sexually abused and exploited women and girls, some as young as 13, according to a report released by a U.N. watchdog agency Friday.

Peacekeepers regularly had sex with Congolese women and girls, usually in exchange for food or small sums of money, an investigation by the Office of Internal Oversight Services found.

"We have had and continue to have a serious problem of sexual exploitation and abuse," said William Lacy Swing, the secretary-general's special representative to Congo, said Friday at a news conference.

"We are shocked by it, we are outraged, we are sickened by it," he said. "Peacekeepers who have been sworn to assist those in need, particularly those who have been victims of sexual violence, instead have caused grievous harm. It is inexcusable behavior, we are determined to stamp it out."

Sexual activities continued even while the investigation was going on in Bunia (search) between May and September 2004, the report said.

They're always saying they're "shocked" and "outraged" when those affiliated with the UN are caught exploiting women, girls AND boys. They should try STOPPING it.

Look for this to happen in tsunami striken areas within weeks.

-----Jean-Marie Guehenno, U.N. Undersecretary-General for Peacekeeping operations said Friday that trying soldiers after they returned to their home countries was "one of the areas where we need to do better."

noooooo, ya think? talk about understatement.

"He also said the investigative capability needed to be "beefed up" and rules and regulations needed to be tightened in some cases."

they need to be told that raping children is against the rules?! sickening.

See there? I knew Bill Clinton would be just perfect as U.N Secretary General. Or maybe it was a language problem like the meaning of the word "is". You know, they could say, "OH! You wanted us to go there to 'keep the peace'. We thought you said 'Get a piece'. Better put some ice on that."

Yes sir, there is no better entity to entrust the task of "humanitarianism" than the vaunted UN.

The UN building should be towed to a remote south Pacific atoll and affixed a big red bull's eye to accomodate the lucky pilot and crew.

I trust the so-called "diplomats" will not be distracted from their usual orgiastic "meetings," and thus should be oblivious to the flash of white light.

[UN] Peacekeepers regularly had sex with Congolese women and girls, usually in exchange for food or small sums of money.........which could be viewed to be a good thing.....the Congolese women probably don't have a lot of food or money....but have plenty of trade goods...

Dang....am I insensitive?

"The ineptitude and corruption is just mind-boggling."

That's exactly why they continue to have the problem.

They're part of the problem, not the solution. They have no oversight, no disciplinary program and have always had a system of preferential treatment (the higher you are on the UN food chain, the more likely your misdeeds will be swept under the rug) and corrupt member states. UN observers, troops, staffers and aid workers are routinely accused of, and frequently caught skimming funds, traffiking in human slaves, running weapons, the drug trade...all the things you find in the unstable countries they're supposed ot be stabilizing.

The United States has to take the initiative in these world actions and completely bypass the U.N. at all times. The more we distance ourselves from them, when we prove to the world that the U.N. is irrelevant, we can dismantle the institution and finally get to the meat & potatoes of the world's problems.

6,411,200,108 people in the world and an ideal for mankind is headed up by Kofi Annan.
What's it all about Kofi? Is it just for the moment that we live?

Yeah, right. Or like the MSM has been doing re: RC priests who are (accused of being) boy loving homosexuals.

From the article:

He declined to "name and shame" countries whose troops have committed sex abuse, saying that would lead to less cooperation from the member states in cracking down on the exploitation. "If you do it in an adversial way you are going to have the Secretariat against the Member States and it is not going to work," he said.

Nice little protection arrangement they have going there.

Oh, some of the nationalities from the stories I've heard are a Canadian, and a Ukranian offical and the entire Moroccan contingent. There was a minor French UN official caught with his own little porno studio...I guess maybe the deatils will start trickling out. Probably not in the American media though
