Funny you say that. In school I learned that McCarthy was a fanatic who conducted a Communist Man Hunt that was like the Salem Witch Trials. Infact, I can say that idea was reinforced.

While his methods may have been, ummm, extreme, his intent was honorable.
To identify the persons within the communist movement and shed light on the rats.
