French authorities carried out a special security exercise at Nice Airport on Sunday after receiving a threat of an attack with the deadly gas used by the Nazis at the Auschwitz extermination camp during World War Two.
Airport officials said no flights were cancelled or delayed despite the exercise under which security was tightened and checked, a month before NATO defence ministers are due to arrive for a summit in Nice on France's Mediterranean coast.
Nice city authorities said they arranged the exercise involving 350 military and civilians after a group called the Anti-Globalization Liberation Front sent a letter written in German threatening an attack using the Zyklon B gas. The letter was received on Friday.
"The threat was serious. It was made by people who are clearly very familiar with the product they mentioned," said Pierre Breuil, a local official in charge of the exercise.
Zyklon B is a hydrogen cyanide gas which was used by the Nazis to kill prisoners in the gas chambers at Auschwitz. An estimated 1.5 million people, mostly Jews, were killed at Auschwitz in Poland.

I suspect the terrorists have chosen airports in France because there are no nice ones there. They all smell of body odor which will make it extremely difficult to tell if the airport is being attacked by a chemical agent.
To: LurkedLongEnough
Why do they have to attack the nice ones why can't they attack the disgusting ones?

,,, when the Nazis used this stuff it was in pellet form and was dropped into liquid to activate it. Do you know if that's still how it works? I presume it is the same stuff that's used when gas is the option in executions performed on death row prisoners?

The Muslim losers that are attacking us, are attacking France. We should show sympathy regardless of our differences about invading Iraq.

If it's a nice airport, it better have a Nathan's in it.

France's airports are among the best in the world. Paris is the most traveled destination in the world. Nice, in the south of France has had too many Muslims from North Africa taking roots. And, where there are Muslims, there are potential terrorists.

Conservative Liberal? The name says it all. That's a real feel good attitude you have there, especially since France has aided, provided, and protected terrorists, continually undermining our effort and national security. The Dog is biting the hand that feeds them. They can live in their own mess.
