As a former employee of said publication, I can assure you the omission is intentional. And yes, the Journal News is Gannett.
Even when I was there, from '94 to '97, it was ridiculously one-sided -- in fact, I was notoriously the "House Republican", the only person who would vocally disagree with our blatant bias.
Since I moved on (no, it didn't hurt my career -- I was promoted to headquarters in Virginia) the Journal News has just gotten worse and worse. Huge numbers who just want the high school sports or local classifieds have been forced to cancel their subscriptions out of sheer anger. And then the Journal News holds meetings and seminars on how to stem their declining circulation.
Watch for their annual tribute to the Rosenbergs every time the anniversary of their Sing Sing execution rolls around.

Yes, I Agree that the only reason I subscribe to journal news is to get whatever local news I can. They(Ganett has gobbled up all the local papers, and then they spoon feed us only what THEY think we should hear. A refreshing publication I have recently been reading is the New York Sun: http/www.nysun.com/
They appear to be fair & balanced in their reporting. We all know how far that philosophy has taken the Fox news channel, right?
