Well actually I'm picturing a little two pound dog trying to get away from the owl.

Okay, hon, I won't hold that thought against you. I'm a little squeamish about this particular topic because The Very Best Dog In The World, Thor, I felt was in danger from red-tails. They used to get too close to the property, and -- while I love raptors too -- I'd be damned if I'd let them assault my little doggie.

Dog stories always welcome.

Dogs rule.

I'd shoot the bird before I let it attack a dog.

There you go again. Mean-spirited.

Folks, I'm telling ya, be on the lookout for Nita. She might be a cute blonde, but she's not someone you should try to make friends with.

Well, if it makes you feel any better... I'd shoot the bird before I let it attack the dog, too. ;-)

Later!

I had to double-check your locale due to shock and disbelief...hyenas in PA?!?!
Our problem came from a city woman who thought chicken hawks [oh, *sorry*..the majestic Red-Tail Hawk] were nearly extinct.
Apparently she'd never been outside her asphalt jungle.
We have always had them in boundless, verminous numbers.
She got [ex] Gov. Glendening to "protect" them.
The rest is history. [and tragedy]

[get a .22 LR with a good scope. S,S&S]...;)

We're up to our @sses in White tails.
They brought in coyotes who pretty much ignore the deer they were supposed to "control" and much prefer the easy pickings of cats, small dogs and livestock such as chicken, geese and young mammals.
