If there was a prosecutor, then he was prosecuted. Indeed only God knows what someone is feeling, but that does not negate that a parent should be punished by the law for negligence that killes children

"have you ever done anything stupid where someone could have been killed or injured" ....Answer is no, but I have gotten in the midddle of bunch of teenagers that were fighting over a girl and got hit pretty hard, I did ask God what the heck was I doing trying to pull to raging hormone teens apart afterwards. But nothing to endanger someone. I don't butt in other people's affairs, but when it comes to children, I will ... if I feel they are in danger. This mother HAD A CHOICE and she chose to endanger herself and her child paid with her life.

I say leave her alone. She will live the rest of her life with this. That's punishment enough.

I doubt this woman is inclined to feel guilt. In fact, I bet a dollar she sues somebody.

San Antonio had a big problem with Mexican residents driving around baricades and getting into trouble at low-water crossings. Deaths didn't seem to deter these people who think they are immortal, but when the city started fining them big bucks for every rescue they had to do, the problem was pretty much solved over night.

I "store" the jedi's life jackets under the seat in my van. I'm pretty sure I'd never go around a barrier, but you just never know when you might need a life preserver in a car. I can swim well. They can't.

Of course. This being California, I wouldn't be surprised to see the state try and take her other two kids away. It's a little sad to see the blind condemnation. I don't know her name but I've seen the woman's picture on TV. Local paper article

I wonder why she didn't send a 2 year old child up alone in the chair? First.

Personally, I would have been hard pressed to send my baby up like that without me. I would have wanted to go with her.

This is true, but wouldn't you have SECURED her somehow? Maybe they didn't have time, with the waters rising?

What was this woman thinking?

You're assuming that she had two brain cells to rub together.

But just to humor your fantasy, if she actually was capable of forming a thought, it probably was something like: "I came all the way out here bast three barricades to this raging floodwater to drown my babies because I don't have running water in my house like that white girl Andrea Yates, so I better drown it RIGHT NOW or I won't have another chance!"

That's a good idea about the life preservers. I think I'll throw a couple in my car .

Tell everyone you love and know about some of the rarer safety tips, including:

Trains, large trucks and other large vehicles are ALWAYS moving MUCH faster than they look. Their size can fool your depth perception and sense of speed. NEVER risk outracing ANYTHING big.

"Small" floods can be VERY powerful! Moving water just 6 inches deep can knock a person over, and just 2 feet can float a car and wash it away!

I figure they gotta be stored somewhere. They fit right under the seat.

I had nightmares after the I-40 bridge collapse...just having them there makes me feel better.
