Thanks for sharing this. Regardless of what happened, prayers for the family of this baby.
Thank you, Cindy.
Thanks for the ping star, pinging the prayer people.
I agree. Thanks, all.
Lainie, thank you for the real story. As I read the first seventy posts or so I had the feeling we weren't getting the right story.
Dear God, please take this baby girl into your arms and comfort her with your love.
Soothe the mother, please Lord. Let her find peace.
My heart breaks whenever I hear about children hurt or killed. For their families too. I'll pray for them.
I completely agree. There should be fines as well for those that utterly ignore warnings risking the life and limb of other that have to go in to undo their idiocy and negligence. I'm thinking of those landslides too. Apparently it was all but certain that those were going to occur.
They ought to begin to fine these buffoons and ignoramuses 10K on top of whatever losses they suffer! They lucky to not all be Darwin candidates.
FYI, see post #76.
How could they get over it if they're sane?
I will side with you and the AVers on this one. I have seen CAD entries change with my own eyes on the CHP system..... You will have to have a written entry on a signed log at LACoRoads for me to believe it was "closed"
That said, all day and night we have seen people removing the closures because they think the water has gone down, etc. And since they are committing a crime, they arent going to replace the cones, barriers, etc after they get past.
Cindy: I owe you an apology, Alot of us here were quick to judge to this woman's "stupid actions" not knowing all the facts, as posted by Lainie and Brad's Gramma.
We all know the MSM looks to dramatize someones loss for viewers and we were no better in reacting to the story fed to us. It's difficult when you hear a child died and we are quick to judge the parent's actions, especially when you were not the one making that decision at the time, One that you are going to have to live with based on the choices you made. Our prayers go out to the family.
Nah, you don't, but thanks:') We were just talking.
"She saw a little water but didn't realize that it was a deap dip."
First of all, it would appear that whomever wrote that is sympathetic. But regardless, a degree of common sense needs to be exercised in situations such as this.
Nevertheless, how sorry am I to feel for people that build, in spite of everything screaming at you, homes in a place where it's simply a matter of time, how long is immaterial given that we're not talking centuries here, before a landslide wipes you out??
Do I feel sorry for these people? Absolutely. Were they stupid? You bet they were!
Too many Americans have gotten used to notions that they can "have whatever they want" w/o respect to rules, laws, etc. Too many of them are applying that to nature, something that has no bias, not timetable, no agenda, no feelings, nothing.
It's just like people who build homes in a flood plain. Well? Then they get flooded. Wow! That sure is a shock.
I lived in Arizona years ago, and I'm tellin' you, the first thing you learn is to stay the hell away from those rivers when it rains. Either the man made ones or the natural ones! It doesn't matter what "you think" is the case, it matters what can happen in a matter of seconds. And golly gee, there was deeper water than she could see! Imagine that!
Come on...
Someone else posted about cars routinely running RR crossing gates. I suppose if you can't see a train, then the odds are that you'll make it. But if you do it often enough, you're bound to end up dead. For some reason, I can't imagine that this was the only time this lady did this. And even if so, is it worth even the slightest risk in her case?!!!!!
It'd have been one thing if she had had a 16 and 13 year old with her who could swim. But to have two children that both needed help? No, I stand by my statements. Anyone there is going to mitigate the circumstance. But even if not, common sense screams out here and this lady was negligent! I also refuse to believe that in these modern United States, that there was absolutely no other way across. It may have been miles out of the way, but hey, once again, as Americans, we are so ingrained into getting what we want when we want it, that patience is next to nonexistent.
As a new daddy with a one-month old and a 3 yr. old, my heart does go out! But in a million years, with my two, alone in the car, would I have done the same? No way!
Well, it's obvious you have your mind up about this.
Congratulations on your new baby.
Thanks! BTW.
I just know human nature.
Let me ask you, would you have done what she did?
Why or why not?
So sad that this child had to pay for her mother's stupidity.
No, I would not have done the same. However, I have the benefit of experiencing some pretty heavy flooding, which left my car stranded on a median, forcing me to walk my eight months pregnant self 2 miles home in hip deep water. Then again, I didn't have a lot of choice in the matter. We were hit with a tropical storm, and until I was released from duty, I couldn't leave. By then, the only road home was flooding out.
We started out, and it started getting bad, so we pulled over to an area that was higher, for about 2hrs. When it looked like the rain had finally passed for good, and the water started going down, we headed for home. We almost made it, but as soon as it got too high, my husband beached the car on a median and we walked the rest of the way.
Painful lesson learned, but not nearly as bad as this lady.
