Episcopal bishops see chance to avoid schism
Washington Times ^ | 1/12/05 | Julia Duin

The Episcopal Church has one last chance to back down from its consecration of an openly homosexual bishop, thereby sparing the worldwide Anglican Communion from a potential split, say conservatives at an Episcopal bishops' conclave this week in Salt Lake City.
The meeting today and tomorrow will deal with the "Windsor Report," a lengthy document issued last fall blaming the nation's 2.2-million-member Episcopal Church for potentially splitting the 70-million-member Anglican Communion over the consecration of V. Gene Robinson.

Unless the Americans show some willingness to suspend homosexual ordinations and same-sex blessings, conservative bishops say a showdown is expected next month at a gathering of the world's Anglican archbishops in Ulster, Northern Ireland. In a letter dated Jan. 4, Central Florida Bishop John Howe told fellow bishops there would be a "pastoral disaster" in the church if bishops come up with "an unclear or ambiguous response" to the report.
"Even worse would be for us to create the perception that we are dodging the report altogether or trying to 'buy time' by employing delaying tactics," he wrote.

This will be similar to the Episcopal Church split in 1978, except even worse.

Bishop Howe's got a little Ali in him.

Howe about: A "distressen lesson." A "Bishop mishap." A "liturgy SINergy."

Here's an idea for avoiding schism...Stop blessing men who stick it to other men.

Interesting article.

We still get our local diocesan news . . . even though we left that church a year ago and told them to strike us from the rolls. They're as bad as the old Plain Truth magazine . . . those guys would track you down if you moved and keep on sending it to you even if you told them to stop. (Ever wonder how the ECUSA is keeping its numbers up in the face of scattering sheep?)

Anyhow, the heretical Bishop of Atlanta wrote a long article about the Windsor Report and the meeting in Salt Lake - it's his opinion that the report is very complex and oh, so nuanced, and we should expect to have intense communion-wide discussions about its meaning, oh, for many, many years . . . .

Delaying tactics are the order of the day.

The liberals scored the first touchdown and now they want to run out the clock.

The real story to watch is the churches that are leaving with their property. If that takes hold legally, you will see a mass exodus.

So to speak.

Sorry, too early. I looked inside, and it's 1928. My confirmation gift, from my Godfather, was a Book of Common Prayer.

What is there to decide, If you are a Christian you will follow the will of the Lord. They aren't as of yet.

The libs are after the property. That's what's driving all of this controversy.

The bishop here has already snatched one property from its orthodox congregation, leaving the priest with an empty building and no website (he is near retirement and was threatened with loss of his pension.) He has threatened another orthodox congregation which has a smaller, old building on what has become very valuable land -- basically told 'em to toe the line or get out, he keeps the now multi-million-dollar land. Other parishes see this, and tremble for their endowments and their stained glass windows and the cemeteries where their families are buried . . .

The previous bishop had always stated that any parish that was unhappy with his leadership was welcome to leave and take their property along (note the mildness of the dove with the wisdom of the serpent -- nobody ever left under his tenure.) The new guy is a screaming leftist with an ultra-hardball agenda -- if you're not a cheerleader for "gay" marriage and priests, you're an ignorant redneck, a hater, a homophobe, and not really a Christian, and he'll grind you into the dirt.

Yes, and I'm pretty sure that's what we're going to see coming out of the HOB meetings today & tomorrow. I'm also pretty sure Peter Akinola is not going to stand for that.

Bp. Howe (Central Florida) wrote a letter to the HOB last week to press the point, in hopes of forcing the bishops to confront the issues directly.

Rumor has it that Frank Griswold and elves have decided that they're going to take the "Walk Separately" option offered by the Windsor report. The Primates will act accordingly come February, and then the hard work will begin of trying to divide property.....

Bishop Robinson is the godfather of our local Episcopal pastorette's kids. Worse yet, her husband is a journalist.

They are many many miles away from him. I think it is largely symbolic in this case.
