Culture of Death (ZOT!!! His appeals exhausted, and clemency denied, troll goes to the chair.)

So...this article brings up a number of important points. A couple of the most infuriating hypocrisies of conservatives and Bush in particular are the so-called respect for life (Pro-Life) yet unwavering support of the DEATH penalty and the invocation of God in the support of both. It is completely incongruous. Ever since I first encountered Sister Helen Prejean, I realized it is completely and utterly absurd to call yourself a religious person and support the Death Penalty. To say you believe in the power of forgiveness and turn around and show incalculable vengeance makes no sense. That's point one. The other thing implicit in this article, not having to do with religion is the role of our soon to be Attorney General in Bush's decision making process. Like Cheney, Wolfowitz and Rumsfeld, Gonzales tells Bush what he wants to hear. These 30-minute clemency updates show how the torture memos came to be. Thus, we have a group of people with little to no respect for life (torture, vengeance, war) and nobody in the circle to question this. We already are a culture of death blinded to believe in optimism when every decision we make results in bloodshed, the fact that those who run our country continue to insulate themselves is that much more frightening.

How is that any more hypocritical than unwavering support of abortion and unwavering opposition to the death penalty?

The Governor of Texas can only grant clemency if it is recommended by the State Dept of Correction review board.

Know your role, troll!

Sorry to specify it is no less hypocritical to be pro-abortion and anti-death penalty, one who has a true respect for life should be opposed to both.

I disagree that it is hypocritical to be Pro-Life and for the death penalty (or for that matter, in favor of a war).
They are two different issues. Both are meant protect innocent life.

If you are holding a gun and threatening to kill someone and I have the opportunity of stopping you by killing you, is it wrong to kill you?

BTW, I am against the death penalty.

I am PRO CAPITAL PUNISHMENT and against ABORTION.

For the life of me I can not understand why a person GUILTY beyond ANY reasonable doubt should not be punished via capital punishment if their crime warrants that.

Also for the life of me I can NOT understand WHY an unborn person who is NOT guilty of anything beyond any doubt should be subjected to capital punishment through ABORTION.

Capital punishment is Biblically correct whereas abortion is NOT Biblically correct.
