While she has recently often sided with the Democrat minority, Justice Weaver offered something that none of the others did: a strong stand for judicial accountability. While the rest of the court was fine with slapping the wrist of District Court Judge Thomas Gilbert from Traverse City after he smoked marijuana publicly, Justice Weaver
pushed for his removal from the bench. Fortunately, some local politicians did what the court was unwilling to do,
publicly shaming Judge Gilbert from
running for re-election.
