CA: Chamber wants Gregory to resign (San Jose)

The South Bay AFL-CIO Labor Council and the San Jose Silicon Valley Chamber of Commerce on Thursday joined a growing chorus of community groups and elected officials urging embattled San Jose City Councilman Terry Gregory to resign.

The chamber's announcement came Silicon Valley-style, in a blog written by Jim Cunneen, the group's president and CEO, who published his views on a new political Web log site called San Jose Inside (www. sanjoseinside.com).

In the blog, Cunneen also offered the chamber's help in funding a petition drive to recall Gregory if the councilman, who represents District 7, does not resign.

Phaedra Ellis-Lamkins, executive officer of the South Bay Labor Council, met with Gregory on Thursday, along with San Jose Vice Mayor Cindy Chavez, whom Ellis-Lamkins invited because of her leadership role on the issue.

Ellis-Lamkins said she told Gregory he should resign.

Gregory told them he would inform them of his decision today, she said.

Gregory is facing criminal and civil grand jury investigations and has been censured by the city council and Mayor Ron Gonzales for allegedly seeking and receiving free meals, baseball tickets and a case of wine valued at more than $1,400. Gonzales also stripped Gregory, whose district is in East San Jose, of all committee assignments and will not reimburse him for travel expenses.

They cant control the former KGB and GRU agents running the Russian mob in San Jose, Illegal aliens, drug smugglers and child prostitution rings.... but they will go after a councilman for baseball tickets and what really amounts to chump change...

Priorities....
