I just want to point out something important. Most people here obviously don't know alot about the Copts.
First of all, they did not convert to Christianity from Islam. In fact, Copts were never muslims. Copts converted to Christianity around the year 50 AD, 600 years before the arrival of islam, and 300 years before the establishent of the Catholic Church.
Second, "Coptic" is not a religion. It referes to the Christian people and who lived in Egypt before the Arab invasion in the 7th century. Yes, Egypt before the 7th century was a Christian country until the Arabs came in.
Third, Coptic Christians, unlike the vast (muslim) majority of Egypt today, are not Arabs. Coptic (or Egyptian) history predates that of the Arabs' by thousands of years. Egyptian Copts descend from the Ancient Egyptians while the majority of Egyptian Muslims descend from Arabs who conquered Egypt.
Thanks, and welcome to FR.
Noted: thank you, Sir.
