In the interest of fairness---before people start their usual Hinn-bashing---perhaps it is worth noting that some in the Janata party have called for a return to "sutee," or ritual wife-burning (mandated) when the husband dies. So progressive, those Indians.

Which 'Janata' party (I assume you are referring to the Bharatiya Janata Party)leader has called for a return to "Sutee"? Please cite names and places, in fact any details that you may have.

ru referring to the Bharitiya Janata party or the Janata party??both are worlds apart. One relies on Hindu identity(or cultural nationalism or whatever they say!!) while the 2nd one started out as a motley grouping of disgruntled centrist politicians & socialists.

--HUH??? Where did you get that? The Janata party does not exist any longer and if you are talking about the BJP, they will NEVER win another election in India if they say something like that. Dont argue with me on that I live in this country.

Yup the "progressive Indians" have elected women Prime Ministers in the past and even today the Leader of the Ruling Party is a "Catholic" women of foreign origin who could have easily been the Prime Minister had she not refused it herself. Can you ever imagine something like that in "progressive America"? I cant.

But I can still bash Benny Hinn, can't I???

The guy's a cheap charlatan. Why doesn't he take his medicine show to Saudi Arabia or Iran? I don't believe in 'harvesting souls for Christ', only sincere, lifelong efforts to live up to impossibly high Christian standards ('Be thou perfect, as your Father in Heaven is perfect') and praying for God's grace to bridge the gap. Instant salvation in a hypnotic setting, based on unverifiable healing testimonies is rubbish to me.

I say, let Hindus be Hindus and preserve their unique culture. And pray that the unenlightened elements like sutee and the caste system fall away over time.
