MIKE OPENS FIRE ON GUN MAKERS
New York Post ^ | 1/19/05 | TOM TOPOUSIS

For the first time in the nation, gun makers and dealers are now liable for injuries or deaths caused by the criminal use of their weapons, under a landmark law signed yesterday by Mayor Bloomberg.

The law — one of four bills signed regulating gun sales and possession — goes further than any other city's effort to hold the gun industry financially responsible for crimes involving their weapons.

"We need to do everything we can to keep guns out of the hands of criminals and out of the hands of children," said Bloomberg. "There's just no argument here. Guns kill people, it's time to get them off the street."

Among the rules that could hold a dealer or manufacturer liable are multiple gun sales to one person or sales at a gun show without performing a criminal-background check.

said Bloomberg. "There's just no argument here. Guns kill people, it's time to get them off the street."

Intentional deception by New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg. He states that guns kill people. According to mayor Bloomberg, guns are irresponsible, not criminals. Yet, Bloomberg seeks to make gun manufactures responsible for that which Bloomberg himself has failed. Bloomberg has failed to stop criminals from killing people.  Bloomberg has failed and now he is pointing his finger at anyone but the criminal and himself.

This is what the "big tent" crap gets you every time: Liberals masquerading as Republicans.

Spoken like a true Republican.

And to think, I thought fraud was against the law.

As has been suggested by so many thoughful FReepers out there, in response to anything Bloomberg dictates, a simple but firm "Not likely, no thank you." should suffice for this highly concentrated spec of irrelevancy.

This guy is a left wing fascist. Is there any formal procedure in the national by-laws to throw him out of the Republican party?

Why yes you are right.

And Samson slew a thousand with the jawbone of an ass...

Perhaps the mayor is about to be turned into a murder weapon.

First time? tell that to all the cities that have sued the industry and dealers for a decade, Now they have an actual law to do it with, maybe the supremes will have to take the case once and for all...

I hate that phrase, it's not like you walk down the street and there are guns laying around.

Constitutionality aside (and it usually is when liberals discover a clause or amendment they don't like), is this legal or binding against a gun manufacturer not located or doing business in NYC?

Gun makers and dealers are only held liable when they do not comply with a strict code of conduct regulating sales and transfers of their weapons to keep them out of the hands of criminals, Bloomberg said.

This will only happen once or twice. And those few instances will never be financially significant events to a manufacturer. This legislation is simply more touchy feely worthless gun legislation.

Yes, it is. Or so they hope. The small (or large) company manufacturing firearms in Arizona is now liable in NYC for the actions of the second, fifth or eighteenth buyer of the product.

If this stands, how long do you think it will be before somebody sues Ford because somebody sideswiped them with a F-150?
