I-95 goes through Providence, kinda the long way around to NY.
I-90W to I-84W to I-91S to either the Merritt Parkway or I-95 (New Haven) is much faster.

90W to 290W, to 395 to New London CT - get on the ferry (insanely easy to drive anything on without being checked), get off at Orient Point and start driving to NYC, no one will be looking for you on the Island.
