The "founder" of the KKK was General Bedford Forrest.

"After the civil war, the area of the south where Forrest lived was absolutely devastated with no law and no order. Forrest founded the KKK as a law and order organization and not a pro-white, anti-Catholic organization. It worked for about five years until the KKK became violent and political. Forrest ordered the KKK disbanded and resigned from the organization. The KKK we know today was founded about 20 years after Forrest’s death."

"People making too much of this."

Dad always said, "Pick your battles." In this case, one's perspective is not a best defense no matter the position - so I defer to Dad's advice....;-)

Have you ever tried to track down your relatives? Alex Haley and his Irish relation met in a similar fashion.

Imagine the amount of positive good the left-wing flag protestors/naacp/splc could do if they took all that negative energy and put it into a worthy cause.

It's too profitable to campaign against the flag - since the 80's scalywags have been capitalizing on the CBF and filling their coffers. When the gravy train ends, they will find another cause - until then we deal with these incessant attacks.

The CBF is no more a symbolism of Racism than the American Flag. The CBF is part of my heritage. I had ancestors who fought and died for the south during the war. My ancestors were defending their country, their state, their homes. My ancestors are the most forgotten people from the civil war. Blacks who fought for the south in the war of Northern Aggression. Yes, some of my Ancestors were slaves, some were free blacks who loved their homes. Slavery was wrong, but it was not the reason for the war. States Rights and a desire of the northern industrial complex to enslave the southern economy were the reason. I find it funny that during the civil war, Black soldiers for the south were paid the same as whites, unlike the union army. While I celebrate my black heritage, I can fly a Malcome X flag from my front yard and no one will say a thing, but the first time I run the CBF up the flag pole under the American Flag, I catch flack from my neighbors who are white. I am asked, don't you know that flag is a symbol of racism. I have to tell them that it's not. it's just a flag from my family's past. They are amazed that as a Black man I would be proud to be from the south and are proud that my ancestors fought for the south.

Yes! Am doing so now....lazy at it, though, because most of my reserach is in-office, through emails. My 5th great uncle ws Wiliam Few, signer of constitution for state of Georgia, senator for Ga, coo-founder University of GA. Few owned a "few" slaves, but his brother Ignatious was huge land owner who owned many slaves, and willed to his mistress a plantation on GA/S.Carolina border, and adopted all the children. There are alot of black Fews, and I've correspnded with several.

Thaks for asking. The history, also, of the black slave owners is prevelent, if we look. Several "historical novels" have been written about black slave owners.

The CBF is no more a symbolism of Racism than the American Flag.

The Confederate Battle Flag is a symbol, and like all symbols will be used and misused by people to promote their point of view and further their agenda. To some it will always be a symbol of racism, and nothing you can do will change their mind. To others it will be a symbol of courage in the face of tyranny, and nothing others do will ever change your mind. To still others it means absolutely nothing, and you will never change our minds. It all depends on ones point of view.

Kind of like that "War of Northern Aggression" nonsense.

Geez. THere are those of us who's ancestors were treated as subhuman, worthy of only death, by those flying the flag of the United States of America, and yet, many of us served, and still do serve, under that flag anyway.

It must be nice to be alive and well, and able to complain so bitterly about a piece of cloth...
