San Jose Unified School District trustees will discuss the potential closing of Cory and Randol elementary schools tonight at what is expected to be a highly emotional meeting.
--snip--
Many Randol parents are outraged Randol -- a National Blue Ribbon school with high test scores -- is on the closing list. A committee ranked Randol and Hacienda equally when it reviewed a list of schools considered for closing, and that has spawned conspiracy theories.
District staff members broke the tie and decided to keep Hacienda open because of its commitment to school choice at the elementary level.
But others are convinced politics are a factor, and some parents have said Pam Foley, a trustee whose daughter attends Hacienda, should recuse herself from the vote.
Foley said Wednesday she is trying to decide if she should recuse herself and has discussed the issue with the district's legal staff.

Pam Foley recusal is in order, it would appear.

That being said, Hacienda Science Magnet is a superb school. My son goes there. Very 'clean' environment, excellent teachers, well maintained grounds, happy children, high test scores.
It would be a pity to lose it.
I hate seeing things like schools placed at odds against each other.
Maybe they need to lose a few administrators and keep both of them open.
*sigh* There is no shortage of administrators.
Sadly isn't it often the administrators that make such school closing recommendations? Burrocrats do nothing better than protect their own tails.
True. But at least they are quite good at it, if nothing else.
That's what I think. Neither Hacienda or Randol should be on that list because they are both fine schools.
There's a number of other schools that should be on that short list.
What are your thoughts about our proposed splitting the district?
We actually want a three way split: north, central, and south.
We don't know of anyone to spearhead the effort in the central part of the district.
It's California schools... of course Politics is involved.
Just thought I'd update you. Pam Foley did recuse herself in a very emotional public hearing last night.
Null and void came to the meeting and wore a freeper shirt, so we got to meet.
He even spoke and was excellent. His point was that neither Hacienda or Randol should be on the chopping block because they are great schools.
The more that I think about that meeting the more that I don't want my tax dollars to fund SJUSD. I'm beginning to think that I may want to go back to work and send my kids to private school.
