Cheney voices concern that Israel may attack Iran
By JPOST.COM STAFF

Vice President Dick Cheney voiced concern Thursday that Israel may decide to act first against Iran to eliminate the possibility of a nuclear threat.

"If, in fact, the Israelis became convinced the Iranians had significant nuclear capability, given the fact that Iran has a stated policy that their objective is the destruction of Israel, the Israelis might well decide to act first, and let the rest of the world worry about cleaning up the diplomatic mess afterwards," Cheney said in an interview aired on MSNBC on the day that George W. Bush was sworn into office for his second term as president.

"You look around the world at potential trouble spots, Iran is right at the top of the list," Cheney said

I don't believe Syria is in any position to be a threat and as for Russia they couldn't even handle their internal problems. I don't think that either is a deterrent to our support.

If/when this situation explodes, it could get very ugly for everyone. I'd hate to see what the economy would do if the oil stopped flowing for any length of time.

It would be an all out race for every drop of oil on this planet by Europe, China, Russia and the US. This is what Europe is really trying to decide are they with the US or in it on their own or perhaps trying to make new Allies.

I think 10 carrier groups will stop EVERYONE from shipping troops into the region. Overland assault would require several countries latting the armies cross them. Ain't gonna happen.

Some would tell you that the Bible says they will come over land taking everything in their path. But you are right land is the only way for them to come....Their armies have the plans to get there just like we do and I am sure that they have factored in the fact that we are already there by now.

Personally I think that Russia might just clean out Iran before we do. It would be wiser from their standpoint if they decided to "join" the war on terror and "help" than to complain once we are there and they can do nothing about it.

This is an other thing this warning does, it give the opportunity for one of the big 4 to step up to the plate and look like they are helping instead of us doing all the work and reshaping the middle-east in our image which of course would take a century and they know it, we are still in Japan after all.

LOL! No, they certainly do not have a very good position sandwiched in between Israel and the US army, but they definitely have been a nuisance in Iraq and there is a very good possibility that they have Saddam's weapons and in that case they could be a threat if they ever felt like committing suicide, but you are right I do not think they will act unless many act with them.

My only question about Syria was does Russia have a pack to protect them in case of war, though I was more interested in Iran.

As for Russia, the bear might be weak and ill but she still has very sharp claws and the US will never seek direct confrontation, just because of the harm that could be done to our population.

I take it back; it turns out that Cheney did say "concerns". On the Sunday news shows today, there was a clip of him on the Imus show. Here's what Cheney said there: "One of the concerns people have is that Israel might do it without being asked."
