They were killed off somewhere else and planted there to make it seem like there is still physical gold in Ft Knox...the same reason they maintain a military presence there..

There hasn't been real gold in Ft Knox for many years...as the Saudis propped up our bond and stock market only with the promise that when it came time to get their money out of the market they would not get stuck with fiat...and would be paid in physical gold.. ;)
