"You always have to be aware of your surroundings," she said.

^^
Exactly. This is so very sad. I really feel for her parents, and I hope the girl dies quickly. But, lordy, why was she going to her car alone at that hour?

Correction. I meant to say, "I hope the girl died quickly."

My point in my earlier post exactly! No security policies or proceedures. I guess I am just so upset, that I am very angry about this horribly needless tragedy for her and her family.

It was a small town, though sad to say no on is immune any more. I went to college in a small town where people left the keys in their cars and stores took checks without ID.

Unfortunately the cultural pollution that has stained our society in recent decades makes it down to places where people once thought they were safe. Sad, very sad.

...after the student at Tyler Junior College clocked out from the Wal-Mart just before midnight.

My guess is she was just going to her car to drive home after a hard nights work. I bet she never thought she would be targeted by some crazed asshole who would kill her.

She just finished working and had clocked out. She was going home. This is awful. Her boufriend was killed not so long ago and she still wasn't over that.

"...why was she going to her car alone at that hour?"

because, among other things, at 19 you are invulnerable. It does appear she knew she was being followed, but too late. The store, and every business establishment, really should have a buddy system for employees, especially those working at night.

She was working the 3-11 shift as my wife does.

Wal-Mart policy requires their employees to park as far away from the store as possible to keep the close lanes open for the public.

It doesn't take long for a predator animal like this to pattern this. Some of these women have to walk a 150 yards or more through a parking lot late at night.

All a creep like this has to do is squat down behind or just set in a car and wait.

The store my wife works at got into cost cutting last year and guess what the first thing to go was ?

Yep, the private security guard in the lot at shift change at night. I would go a pick my wife up.

While I waited on her to come out I always tried to watch out for some of he other ladies leaving before she did just for this very reason.

But so meting like this is over in less than a minute so if you are not right on top of it there is very little you can do.
