Purported Al-Zarqawi Tape Declares War on Democracy

Sunday, January 23, 2005

BAGHDAD, Iraq — A speaker purporting to be Iraq's most feared terror leader declared a "fierce war" on democracy and said in an audiotape posted Sunday on the Web that the Americans were using next weekend's Iraqi elections to install the Shiites in power.

"We have declared a fierce war on this evil principle of democracy and those who follow this wrong ideology," said the speaker, who identified himself as Abu Musab al-Zarqawi (search), head of the Al Qaeda (search) affiliate in Iraq. "Anyone who tries to help set up this system is part of it."

The speaker said candidates running in the Jan. 30 elections are "demi-idols" and those who vote for them "are infidels." U.S. and Iraqi officials fear insurgent attacks and have announced massive security measures to protect voters.

"You have to be careful of the enemy's plan to implement so-called democracy in your country," he added. He said the Americans have engineered the election "to make Shiites dominate the regime in Iraq. Four million Shiites were brought from Iran to take part in the elections to achieve their aim of winning" most of the positions.

***snip****

The authenticity of the tape could not be determined but the voice appeared to be that of al-Zarqawi. It was the second voice tape posted on Islamic Web sites this week purporting to be al-Zarqawi, responsible for numerous car-bombings and beheadings foreign and Iraqi hostages over the past months.

And yet I had many of my fellow freepers here flame me and tell me that Islam is just a religion.

I think you are both wrong.

Islam is a mental illness.

LOL. So true, and a new classic line like "he has a face for radio".

It's a little like the communists here saying if you wore blue (jeans) on Inauguration Day it meant you were opposed to Boooosh.

I know... let's have a protest. Tonight, everybody who thinks democracy is evil and communism rocks drive with your headlights on! Whoa!

Islam has taken every single evil idea and wrapped it into a 'religion'.

I think democracy sucks. Why should we have a system that allows bafoons such as Clinton, or his grind Hillary, or Sen. Boxer, or Kerry or Kennedy or Schröder or Fischer run for office? Maybe old Zarq has a point.

There is no "voice" for all Islam, but neither is there a voice for all Communism or Nazism.

We never went around walking on eggshells trying to figure our the good nazis and communists from the bad ones did we?

It is the ideology that is incompatible with democracy.

It is the ideology that is incompatible with democracy.

For starters.
What is it compatible with?

I can't think of anything good.

"Candidates in elections are seeking to become demi-gods...."

This line did put me in mind of our own Senate.

Prove that Zarqawi speaks for all of Islam.

He does. Other Imams, many who have respected status, have sad the same thing.

Islam is simply incompatible with freedom and democracy, and the sooner you get that in your infidel head, the greater chance you'll have of not being beheaded by those savages.

"Prove that Zarqawi speaks for all of Islam. Prove it or lose it."

Not for all - that's a silly standard.

His views - the Jihadist view - do represent one of the main streams of thought in Islam, however - and one that historically has held much sway. It's the view that has the most in common with the way Muhammad lived his life.
