Bush and the limits of freedom [Oliphant: Rice's 'lame'... 'myopic' comments]
Boston Globe ^ | January 23, 2005 | By Thomas Oliphant

THE REAL political clash here last week did not involve Republicans and Democrats. It pitted Bush Bromides against Rice Realities.

During the mildly contentious hearings for her confirmation as secretary of state, Condoleezza Rice could not avoid grubby details of foreign policy that belied President Bush's focus on freedom as convincingly as they demonstrated what a diversion from the war on terror the mess in Iraq has become. The press's fixation on alleged fireworks during her Senate Foreign Relations Committee testimony missed a more troubling review of specifics. Take, for example, Africa.

“During the mildly contentious hearings for her confirmation as secretary of state,”

Yeah... Kerry/Boxer refrained from calling her 'Jemima'. And these people claim that they're the Party of equality?!

they demonstrated what a diversion from the war on terror the mess in Iraq has become

Gee, President Bush and his administration, Tony Blair, The Iraqi governing council, Zarqawi, Bin Laden all consider Iraq as the central fight in the war on terror.

But Oliphant and the rest of the partisan hacks from the socialist wing of the democratic party say its a diversion.

I just wonder who I should believe?

The problems with libs is that they refuse to see a world that exists outside their preconceived socialist view.
Real evil that wants to subject the world to tyranny is ignored so that they can focus on their self created "evils" of capitalism and freedom for all.

I don't remember having heard that any of the 9/11 terrorists were malnourished children from Ethiopia or Somalia. Oliphant just can't seem to let go of the mantra that poverty leads to terrorism.

Oliphant's job is the same as Boxer's job is the same as Byrd's job: Destroy a powerful conservative *black* woman.

could not avoid grubby details

Must be his 'high journalistic standards', and all. 'Real journalists', etc.

If I recall, that stemmed from his McNeilless-hour appearance discussing the Swifties, where he was characterized as effeminate, sneering, and smirking, in his effort to keep the story at least out of the news as far as he could mock the efforts of John O'Neill and the Swifties.

I wonder if anyone had suggested that Tom return to J-school for a refresher course. Of course, it wouldn't help. It was probably a 'sound' J-school edumacation that helped to crystalize his present opinion about all things not properly leftist.

After seeing that oilyfungt spew his trash at John O'Neill I'd have nothing but a thrashing to deliver if I were to ever meet up with the diminutive dork. As low a lowlife as ever grovelled.

The dems are the party who supports tyrants like Chavez. Their reality meter is broken.

These things normally get me somewhat riled, but after so much of it it is now starting to get just plain boring. *yawn*
