COLUMBUS, N.M. Frustrated by security crackdowns in Arizona, thousands of illegal immigrants and drug traffickers are flooding once-quiet New Mexico, making it the newest frontier in America's struggle to control its southern border.
Border Patrol agents who once caught handfuls of immigrants a day here now arrest 140 or 150 a night. Armed confrontations are increasing, high-speed chases have become routine and officials say they lack the resources to hold the line. At the same time, Mexican crime syndicates using two-way radios and sophisticated cellphones have American law enforcement under surveillance.

plug one hole in the dike and another leak appears....that is why Bush and the Congress are fools to not control the border....I'd even go along with Immigration reform if they would just control the border.....
"At the same time, Mexican crime syndicates using two-way radios and sophisticated cellphones have American law enforcement under surveillance."
Also sounds like a good place to train US forces to operate Predators.
Maybe that explains why the crime rate in my little NM town, 140 miles north the border has skyrocketed in the last few months, and why when I go into a fast food place or other "cheap" restaraunt, I and the cashier are the only ones who can speak English.
Of course the fact that our "wonderful" Governor panders to Illegals and has invited them to come and take advantage of his (taxpayer funded) generosity to them just adds to the problem.
OH well, no problem.... Just drop the "NEW" from the state's name, and it will reflect reality.
How much longer will this go on till our government does something about it? Where's our "rights"?

OMG....when I think of the vocal minority here on FR who go ballistic over even the mention of the Patriot Act, I imagine you would be drawn and quartered for even suggesting your "plan!"
It would be like being at the casino. They could sit and feed the guns quarters and protect the border at the same time.
Border control IS part of needed immigration reform!!!
Our government, Democrat or Republican, have no intention of doing anything about it. At most, we'll get some lip service
The only government that can and will do something about it is the government of the people, by the people and for the people. In essence, if we want results, we have to replace the the ones that have misused our trust.
We don't need no steenkin' "reform," we need enforcement of existing law. The "program" is called DEPORTATION.
Note: Can anyone post the 05-03 Federalist Patriot? I was too quick to delete mine after printing out. It's an analysis of the intel bill (40,000 useless new Border Patrol agents) with some additional succinct commentary re illegal immigration.
I plan to become an Annie Oakley this year.
You are speaking of basic common sense, that is not relevant in their way of thinking. We understand the problem but won't take it to the next logical step. They thumb their noses at you and continue to do what they want to. There is a answer... Impeach the BASTARDS! But no we are much too civilized for that radical move of determination! I'm not though!
Found it!

"As for the law's handling of immigration, much is left to be desired. Increasing border guards and developing border-protection technology will be a waste of time and resources so long as our leaders lack the political courage to treat illegal aliens as illegal aliens. That means no public benefits, no drivers' licenses, no access to U.S. colleges (with in-state tuition at that!), no, no, no, no. The only "right" illegal aliens are to be accorded is that of immediate deportation, and to its credit, the new legislation does expedite this process."
Absolutely; now you are on track. Real Time live fire Kill Zones moving targets and everything. Let the coyotes and the ravens clean up the mess they like "MESKIN FOOD" too!
