JOHNNY CARSON BREAKS SILENCE: KNOCKS FOX FOR TOO MUCH PATRIOTISM AT SUPER BOWL; THINKS BUSH IN ENRON COVER-UP

**Exclusive Details**

Don't look for Johnny Carson to make an appearance during NBC's 75TH Anniversary Special -- even though NBC head Bob Wright has made a personal plea.

"That ain't gonna happen," the retired Carson tells ESQUIRE magazine. "That ain't gonna happen."

The retired funnyman throws cold water on Wright's May Sweep dreams.

"He means well. I know NBC means well. But I am retired. I ain't going back on television. There's no need for me to go back. It's gonna be one of those self-congratulatory things. Look how good we are! I'm just not going to do it!"

Reporter Bill Zehme has been courting Carson for years and the relationship has paid off in spades: On May 8th, ESQUIRE rolls out an exhaustive exclusive interview with the press-shy Carson, running 10 pages.

Carson rips FOX for its Super Bowl red-white-and-blue coverage following 9/11: "When you look at the production -- give me a break!" Carson says. "Norman Mailer said something about patriotism being a nice thing, but just ease up a bit... It's nice to live in this country, but ease up!"

Carson takes on Bush: "Can you believe this Enron mess? I love how his good friend 'Kenny Boy' suddenly turned into 'Mr. Lay'... Give me a break! It will be a long time before we ever understand what's going on behind that story."

Carson has nightmare dreams that he still is host of the TONIGHT SHOW: "It's show time and I am going on -- and I've got nothing to say! I wake up in a sweat!"

He tells Zehme that the only time he wished he was back on the air and not retired was during the Monica Lewinsky mess.

"It's John. I regret it now," Carson said to Wright in a phone call. "I haven't seen such an abundance of material in my life!"

Your wraparound is messed up. Every one of your posts looks like epic verse.

It adds pizazz. At a glance, I don't know if onyx is talking about Johnny Carson, or about returning home to Ithaca.

I couldn't care less who smokes as long as it's not my family. If people want to die sucking on air, go for it. They all think it won't happen to them. The family is left to suction the gunk out of their throats while their lungs are filling up and drowning them.

My grandmother hasn't smoked in 40 years, she defends smokers rights to smoke. I've got an uncle on my dad's side of the family that hasn't smoked in 25 years and he defends smokers rights to smoke. My folks and I both smoked for years (I smoked for over fifteen years) and nothing annoys me more than a Cig Gnatzie.

What is your problem? It's okay for you to call people names just not anyone else express an opinion about Carson?!

If he gets it up and running, let me know and I'll get tealc to ping his Stargate: SG-1 list.

By the way, my last post got me thinking: what if there was a modern version of the Odyssey set in America, with the guy starting out in Troy, MI and working his way home to Ithaca, NY? Probably a bad idea, and it probably has already been done.

Anyway, that's some early morning rambling for ya.

It's true. I have heard that Jay Leno spends his weekends doing stand-up, and actually lives off of that money, while putting his Tonight Show pay in the bank. He's a workaholic and takes very little vacation time.

"Standup gigs? LMAO. Leno doesn't do standup gigs as a livelihood anymore. Leno slogged through the standup cesspool for 20 years in the whimsical dream that he'd one day get the Tonight Show job. The best gig in the world. The Tonight Show is a fulltime obligation with enough stress, demands and creative expression for any man."

Freeper "Route 101" owes me for all this abuse and unfair treatment I'm suffering on his/her behalf.

Hey! I'm finally a victim! I'm on the road to being one of the cool kids.

I had a father-in-law who suffered from emphysema,
but I think he died of a heart attack, which was,
of course, brought on by the emphysema. I recall
that he was hooked to oxygen for the last two years of his life.

I dont think it very classy to be attacking the guy while his body isn't even cold yet . The 2 comments sited are #1 no big deal #2 not a real indication of the man's patriotism .

Did you read the entire thread. It is more than just one article. No one is attacking him, BTW. Mind your own business and if you don't like it, don't read it. Others have a right to say what they think of Carson without your permission.

I see you are still following the thread. You are either interested or are following people around complaining.
