Aides: Shelley may resign (ShmelleyGate)

--snip-- Kevin Shelley, who faces another rebuke Tuesday with the release of a highly critical report on his personnel practices, has told aides and others close to him that he may resign from office rather than answer all the allegations he's facing in multiple investigations.

The embattled Democrat had insisted for months that he had done nothing wrong and would not be forced from office. But a number of sources close to Shelley, while not predicting what he ultimately will decide, said he has repeatedly brought up the subject of resignation in recent days.

"It's hour by hour with him," one associate said. "His mood changes all the time."

Another close confidant said Shelley is busy preparing to testify at a Joint Legislative Audit Committee hearing scheduled for Feb. 3 about allegations that he misused federal elections funds. But this source said he has also heard Shelley say he might resign rather than testify under oath.

"He's a fighter, and I always thought he would fight to the end," said another source close to Shelley. "This is obviously all taking a toll on him."

Shelley could not be reached for comment Sunday, but Caren Daniels-Meade, his spokeswoman, said as far as she knows he intends to remain in the job and testify before the Legislature's audit committee.

"All indications are he intends to testify, and he's still fully engaged with the office and our operations," Daniels-Meade said. "I have no indication he intends to resign at this time."

Talk of Shelley's possible resignation comes as his office braces for yet another critical report about his performance in office. Sources who have seen the confidential report prepared by the State Personnel Board have confirmed that it accuses the combative Shelley of creating "a hostile work environment" in his executive offices.

Strange! Crooked or dirty democrats almost never resign! The try to put their crimes behind them and move on, knowing that they have to continue to be able to steal in order to pay their lawyers. There are only two knids of democrats, those who have been indicted for their crimes and those who haven't yet been caught. This guy will not leave office untill he has secured a future stream of revenue, possibly through his wife, boyfriend or another family member, to support them in a grand style.
