Clinton: Bush shortchanging family planning; abortions rising

By MARC HUMBERT Associated Press Writer

January 24, 2005, 3:42 PM EST

ALBANY, N.Y. -- Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton complained Monday the Bush administration is shortchanging family planning efforts and said that may be causing abortion rates to go up in some parts of the country.

The New York Democrat, considered a leading contender for the party's 2008 White House nomination, told about 1,000 fellow abortion rights supporters that during her husband's administration, family planning funding was a priority and "we saw the rate of abortion consistently fall."

"The abortion rate fell by one-quarter between 1990 and 1995, the steepest decline since Roe was decided in 1973," Clinton told the 28th annual conference of the Family Planning Advocates of New York State, an event coming just two days after the anniversary of the Roe v. Wade Supreme Court decision legalizing abortion. "The rate fell another 11 percent between 1994 and 2000.

"But unfortunately in the last few years, while we are engaged in ideological debate instead of one that uses facts and evidence and common sense, the rate of abortion is on the rise in some states," she said. "In the (first) three years since President Bush took office, eight states have seen an increase in abortion rates and four saw a decrease."

look for the democrats to become the "close the border with Mexico" and the "Bush is killing babies" party the next few years. The Klintoons might just fool enough of the electorate to elect comrade Hillary...

Believe me, they will, if Bush doesn't 1) get with the program on the borders, and 2) make good on his promise to appoint Constitutionalist judges.

They're missing the boat. Abortion is a personal choice no matter what anyone says. We need to take responsibility for our own actions. There are plenty of people who would adopt. As someone who has not been able to have kids, I resent it when others have them or don't take responsibility for them, when they complain about them, or terminate a pregnancy.

But, I thought abortions were a good thing to her? Shouldn't she be celebrating? Or praising Bush for bringing about conditions that encouraged more women to exercise their right to choose?

Is murder also a personal choice???

You missed my point entirely. My wording must have been off. I meant that abortion is USED as a personal choice by the pro-abortionists as an excuse for a mistake. My view is that if you are the one who did the act willingly, then you are the one who should be responsible for the kid. I too, consider abortion, an act of killing. I do not support it. I agree with you.

If you are referring to murder in the sense that we usually think of it, yes, I think that is a choice too that someone does and should pay the consequences for. There are too many examples of "my childhood made me do it" or blaming others. If you murder, you do the time, or pay the ultimate sacrifice (it shouldn't be called that actually).

Why is she even concerned with the higher numbers? The court has given all women this right. Is she now saying that too many people are using this right? Too many babies are being killed? TOTALLY ILLOGICAL!!

Wonder what she thinks is a "good number" of abortions.

I believe that sometime within the last couple years, she said that abortions were down. Now they're up? AND IT'S BUSH'S FAULT?????

"The abortion rate fell by one-quarter between 1990 and 1995"

Is this even true? And, if it is, the strong economy may have been the main reason.

Yes, the evil one is at it again.....this time trying to convince the country that strong support for unrestricted abortion causes fewer abortions.

That's mindbending.

"In the (first) three years since President Bush took office, eight states have seen an increase in abortion rates and four saw a decrease."

It's probably due to doctors getting out of the business of infanticide because of rising insurance rates in some areas and states. The states that have increases are probably states with more control over insurance rates, and certain doctors relocated there, and have an influx of wimmin who want to murder their babies from ajoining states. Just like many states are losing their OB/GYN's because of the cost of malpractice insurance. This all couples with the push for "universal healthcare", no doubt.

I think there must have been a word left out of your statement.
Sorry...
It shows that even those who are on the same page can have misunderstandings. We all need to communicate a little better in society I think.

I see that we agree.

We indeed do.

You know, Hillary can just spout figures, dates, numbers etc. Who has the time to verify her facts?? Certainly no one in the MSM.

So , you as a Freeper, do the research and find out that her facts are totally wrong and misleading-- now what??

My faith lies with the general public to not be swayed by these facts and figures-- It may have worked before, but I really feel there is a new media out there that correctly reports facts and figures, and disputes the claims of Hillary, and doesn't take her words as the Gospel truth.

I knew what you meant, we agree abortion is murder. Murders need to take responsiblity for their actions. Many people would gladly adopt these little unborn children and provide the love and parenting they need in life. I would.NSNR
