MILWAUKEE — The sons of a first-term congresswoman and Milwaukee's former acting mayor were among five Democratic activists charged Monday with slashing the tires of vans rented by Republicans to drive voters and monitors to the polls on Election Day.

Sowande Omokunde, son of Rep. Gwen Moore, D-Wis., and Michael Pratt, the son of former Milwaukee acting mayor Marvin Pratt, were among those charged with criminal damage to property, a felony that carries a maximum punishment of 3 1/2 years in prison and a $10,000 fine.

The activists are accused of flattening the tires on 25 vehicles rented by the state Republican Party to get out the vote and deliver poll watchers Nov. 2.

``Want to bet that they walk away with a slap on the wrist?``

What, are you kidding. I'm sure they got jobs out of it. Boxer's office probably snapped them up.

The author fails to point out that Sowande has changed his name to Supreme Solar Allah adding further credibility to his position.

I don't want to ever hear the word "disenfranchised" again.

I think that is the plan. Aren't there laws punishing people for interfering with someone's attempt to vote? Charging these people merely with property damage seems a nice way to deal down in a plea bargain so they walk away with time served or a minor amount of community service.

They could have charged them with instigating acts of domestic terrorism.

"Supreme Solar Allah?" Wasn't he a member of the SuperFriends...? :)

They were already paid workers on the Kerry campaign. The longer the 'Rats are out of power, the worse they act which causes more people to turn against them and they get further out of power.

Only if you are interfering with an illegal alien or felon attempting to vote.

To rise in stature in the Democrat party, one must do some sort of criminal act. I say these 5 people will just become heros in the Democrat party, maybe even be offered entry level jobs at the DNC.

It's only a heinous crime if a Republican does it.

A friend of mine owned the vans which were damaged and I'd like to let people know that he tells me that the GOP up there in Milwaukee covered his losses. They didn't have to do that and I think people should know that they did their part to look out for the small businessman.

Now, I can look forward to the fun part: Locking the vandals up. I think it could be construed as a "hate crime", don't you?

In a previous thread on this subject, the US Attorney was wondering out loud if he could tie the tire slashing to the election. Probably felt the defense would successfully claim it was a coincidence. Wuss!

They should pay, in cash, for new tires to replace the ones they slashed.

Sowande Omokunde. What are the chances that name belongs to what we in Canada call quaintly a "visible minority"? If so, he's a Poor Victim of Society and gets a free pass. No punishment -- he has suffered enough.

If not, did he have the sense to claim "it was a joke"? That's the usual defence offered by the local brats who vandalize Jewish cemeteries. That ought to work all right.

"They should pay, in cash, for new tires to replace the ones they slashed."

Mommy would cover it, courtesy of dollars donated by some NEA (or other generic left wing ;>) lobbyist. Community service would be better - make them empty pit toilets at State parks for 12 months...

;>)
