Did anyone catch the Dr. Pepper ads shown during the playoffs yesterday?
The first ad features the song "Stacy's mom" (...has got it going on), which, if you have heard it, is sung by a hormone-driven teen who flirts back and forth with his girlfriend's mom. The Dr. Pepper ad shows a group of boys about 10-12 years old playing in a park when a mini-van drives up. Very close shots of the driver as she gets out of the van, a sneaker, keys jingling, a "tease" as the wind blows her blouse a few inches above her belt. Subtle, sexy stuff.
The kids stop and look as she pulls the side door open and pops the top on a cooler of Dr. Pepper.
The kids smile and race to the cooler.
The last few quick shots have the words from the song "I'm in love with Casey's mom..." one child gazes reverently up at the woman, who gives back a knowing smirk.
It was just CREEPY. Gender test! I can't imagine this commercial with a leering guy and some pre-pubescent girls. Ewwww.....
Anyway, the "Diet Doctor Pepper" commercial shows a fellow screaming as he tumbles down a mountain on a snowboard. He crashes in a heap in front of a couple of teenagers, one who says "I think your getting it, dad". Dad, flat on his face and covered with snow, manages to move only his hand in a "thumbs-up". Just another incompetent clumsy dad ad.
Anyway, I was struck by the contrast of the two ads.
After the steady run of "male enhancement" ads on these games, this one almost seemed wholesome. But, I do agree with your point. There are no small kids in my house. I don't know how those of you who have them deal with it if they want to watch the game -- hitting the mute button? Channel-surfing during the ads? Don't let them watch sports?
How many young men and values of our society will be sacrificed on the altar of self indulgence?
Spike TV runs ads for "natural male enhancement" (with some idiot named Bob) all the dang time. Even worse, they always run two at a time.
Heh... You're wrong on both ads. First... It IS NORMAL for teen boys to admire beautiful women.
And lighten up about clumsy dad... dad's aren't under attack here, they are trying to be young.
I have 4 young boys. I'd use the shotgun, and go to jail, if necessary.

What creeped me out was how unattractive and asexual the mother was. The commercial made no sense at all becuase no kid would ever be hot for this mom,
I saw the Dr. Pepper Stacy's mom ad, but was disappointed because the mom in the commercial was not all that hot. The mom should have been smoking hot.
Exactly, the woman in the commercial isn't attractive at all. It's just another dumb Dr. Pepper commercial that makes no sense.

These ads seem to be a staple of sports talk stations, too. I guess it's the demographic -- lots of hair-replacement ads too -- but lots of kids are tuned in to this stuff. I know, it's an old story. Geez, I remember when Playtex Living Bra ads were the raciest things on TV.

in the song, Stacy's mom is a hottie. This commercial actually has a not-hot mom, but she's got it going on because she has Dr. Pepper.
I thought it was stupid since the song, as they used it, doesn't fit. It could have been edited to fit.
This commercial was more dumb than offensive. The idea was pretty good...Stacy's mom 'has it going on' because of the Dr. Pepper. Kind of like the Bud Light commercial to counter the Miller lite ref commercials, where they uncover the ref is taking the bud and replacing Miller not because Miller's better, but because they wanted the bud light for themselves. This a weak attempt at that kind of shifted meaning.
I'm glad to know I'm not the only one.
Well, we do have a TV monitor, but just for select videos or DVDs. No cable, no antenna. I'm not going to invite that dreck and sludge into my house.

Don't know about that - but I have had some profane alphabet soup...
The first Cathouse visit with a wink from dad used to be the practice in a lot of America for generations(thank goodness my kid likes girls),, I doubt too many teen girls would have gotten the same wink,,,,
