The Moral Freefall of Today’s American Universities
CBN News ^ | 1/25/2005

Some say the Leftist agenda that is running rampant today got its roots in the 1960s. The radicals of the Sixties Revolution are the same men and women at the head of our educational institutions and are in charge of shaping the minds of our young people today.

And it is not just anti-Americanism that has escalated.

The counter-culture is now the mainstream. Hippies of the world, unite!! Great literature is now studied at Swarthmore:

At Swarthmore, Lesbian Novels Since World War II

Other than their hatred of Christianity, I still haven't figured out what common cause liberals and muslims have.

Gosh, I'm really surprised (not!) that you pull that one course from the Swarthmore catalog, as evidence to support your thesis.

Shocking (again, not!) that there is no mention of the following courses also offered at Swarthmore.

RELG 003. Hebrew Bible and the Ancient Near East
RELG 004. New Testament and Early Christianity
RELG 005B. Introduction to Christianity
RELG 014H. Christian Life and Thought in the Middle Ages
RELG 015. Philosophers, Messiahs, and Mystics: Early Modern Judaism
RELG 016B. Rabbinic Thought and Literature
RELG 020B. Prophets and Visionaries: Christian Mysticism Through the Ages
RELG 036. Christian Visions of Self and Nature
RELG 045. Torah and Logos: Judaism and Philosophy

Other than their hatred of Christianity, I still haven't figured out what common cause liberals and muslims have. I believe it was Lenin who best described them as "useful idiots". Of course, both sides believe that after Christianity has been destroyed, they will be the masters.. unfortunately for libs, when/if the shoe drops, they will find their Muslim masters despise them even worse than Christians...

What really needs to be done, is to generate good-paying jobs, that do not require a college education.

There are lots of them out there. Unfortunately our bureaucracy has deemed most of those careers to require College "Certification" or Training as opposed to "Education".

And the flip side to that curiosity is that College is not at all required in order to achieve a good education. In fact, College can be a detriment to obtaining a good education.

Personally, I'd like to see some fundamental rethinking on the question of higher education that is more fitting with modern economic and social reality. The system has basically degenerated into a toll booth in the game of life and if you don't pay, you can't play.

True, as long as I can remember, it was...'you've got to go to college, if you want a good job, and don't want to dig ditches'

Absolutely and I have said this before. Our education system needs to be revamped too. And we need quick training type cirriculums so that people can easily adjust to the kinds of job losses and industry losses we are seeing now.

Actually I answered this very question in an interview for www.frontpagemagazine.com and my answer is that their hatred of God leads the American left to ally with the Muslims. Deep down, the leftists KNOW who the real God is, and it ain't Allah, so anything you can do to destroy the Judeo-Christian foundation of this country, they view it as in their best interest.

FPM also asked me about the future of the university (and I teach at one) and it isn't bright. Right now, even with increasing numbers of conservatives on the campus, I don't see any hope for the university. It is one of the few institutions left that is virtually impervious to market forces, and that's always dangerous.

It's not entirely hopeless, however: Recently our new book, "A Patriot's History of the United States" was published and is doing very well. GO here for the Amazon link: http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/1595230017/qid=1092168718/sr=1-5/ref=sr_1_5/102-3697594-4449755?v=glance&s=books

I have yet to find a real leftist who does not hate Christianity, and many of them are so-called "Christians." Yet they are diametrically opposed to 90% of what Jesus taught and what He requires.

re: Other than their hatred of Christianity, I still haven't figured out what common cause liberals and muslims have.))

Well, they both also hate Jews. This doesn't seem to bother liberal Jews, at least not so I would notice.

It is a disconnect of the most cognitive sort, non? Muslims are mysogynists of the most primitive sort--they certainly are not pro-choice, and sacrificing the unborn is the sacrament of the liberal. But that doesn't bother liberals, that Muslims would shut down the abortuaries.

They say that liberals are of the feminine mind...from Venus, and all. Mars is aggressive and the darkest masculinity is sadism. The darkest corner of femininity is masochism, and Islam appeals to masochism. Perhaps that's it...? Beat me up, Ahmed, it hurts so good?

Absolutely. There are already some of these. For example, it takes about two years of vo-tech training to get an AMT degree and be certified as an aircraft maintenance technician. Most airlines have payscales that top out at five years of seniority with an annual salary of about $60,000 or so plus benefits. Not too shabby for someone less than 25 years old without a four-year college degree.

There are other examples like this.

The trouble right now is that everyone wants their kid to go to college. If you took them to task and asked them why, half of the people wouldn't be able to give you a good answer, other than "that's what you do after high school". For the other half, the answer would likely be some variation on "so that he/she can get a good job". Back to your original point - if you could obtain a good job without a college degree, there would be no need for college.

Voila. The liberal, America-hating college campuses of today would be in trouble. College tuition would go down, and some of these ex-hippie commie professors would be prevented from polluting the minds of our youth and actually have to get a real job.

Our universities are holding tanks for our immature grown children. We put them in, hoping they'll be grownups when they come out the other end.

One day, years ago, I went to my university's heath center for a sore throat and could year the female student in the sheeted off area next to me being treated for genital warts. That's likely HPV, by the way -- the virus that causes almost all cases of cervical cancer. That young woman had years of cervical cancer risks to look forward to. But, don't worry. If she has regular pap smears, they'll probably catch it in time...

I see the book review on Front Page as well:

http://www.frontpagemag.com/articles/ReadArticle.asp?ID=16583

Nice closing line:

As we note in the introduction, we utterly reject "My country right or wrong," but we likewise reject the destructive approach that has characterized virtually all the U.S. history texts for the last 30 years, "My country, always wrong." The truth, we think, paints a wonderful portrait of the United States as she is.

Thanks.
