ANTICIPATED REPORT
When I heard that the kidnapper and murderer of the young girl abducted from the Wal-Mart parking lot was a disturbed veteran of the war in Iraq I began to watch the media even more closely ... waiting for something.
What I am waiting to see is who will be first to produce an in-depth report on the sordid affair. Perhaps it will be the New York Times or Washington Post or "60 Minutes."
If such a report is brought forth, I predict that in examining the murderer's past it will be determined that the difficult circumstances of his youth as a member of a minority in Texas left him no alternative but that he should join the armed forces where he was trained to kill. The unjust war in Iraq only further victimized and traumatized him.
I predict that the conclusion of this report, if it should be produced, will be that the final blame for this horrible encounter between a sweet and innocent girl and a victimized young man who was made a murderer by his training and experiences in an unjust war cannot really rest with the perpetrator.
Final blame for this unthinkable act must lie, in final analysis, with societal influences in Texas - and, of course, ultimately with Texan George W. Bush, who, as Ted Kennedy has proclaimed, hatched up the whole war at his ranch in Texas.
If this in-depth report is not forthcoming I will issue a Dan Rather-type apology for allowing my jaded zeal to get the better of me.
Dick Johns, Tyler
It is clear that everything and anything that goes wrong can be blamed on President Bush and in fewer degrees than Kevin Bacon.
I think the writer was tongue-in-cheek. Strong Republican area we live in .. at least Tyler.
Tongue in cheek or not, my comment stands. Anything and everything is blamed on Bush.
Oh yea, I know, I think the writer has the same sentiment.
That somehow they'll try to turn this on Bush.
Bush must be one powerful dude if he is responsible for just about everything that goes wrong. ; >
Bush is merely a puppet. Karl Rove and Dick Cheney are the true evil in the world.
Are you anti-Bush? I'm new .. so you'll have to help me understand what you're saying.
Don't be surprised when this murderer's court-appointed attorney uses the "it's-all-President's-Bush-fault" excuse to defend his client.
Satire.
I know at least one criminal defense attorney here that wouldn't dare use that excuse. Don't know if he takes court-appointed cases or not, tho.
Never mind that the Senate voted it down 95-0 during Clinton's Presidency.
The latest gargage I heard about the tsunami was that it was "caused" by nuclear tests.
