"This is personal. As I traveled across the country last year, I learned a lot about the dreams, hopes, fears and frustrations of the American people. Nothing touched me more than the parents I met who feared that illness would strike a child who is uninsured.

A sick child is always a worry. A sick child that you can't get help for is a parent's worst nightmare. Helping the 11 million children who have no health coverage isn't even on the radar screen of the Bush administration and the Republican leaders in Congress. But, we're going to put it there.

It is totally unacceptable that, in the greatest country in the world, millions of children are not getting the health care they need. That's why this week I introduced the Kids Come First Act. Help me push through the Republicans' political roadblocks and take care of the 11 million children without health insurance.

The Republican leadership will try to prevent this essential legislation from ever seeing the light of day. The health and productivity of the next generation's workforce is what will contribute most to saving these systems, not whether or not we privatize accounts or means test the benefits.

Who are these 1/4 without immunizations and all the rest? Are these children of families that do not qualify for the myriad of "free" services? And if 25% of these kids aren't being immunized why is Kerry's answer free insurance for all?

those 25% not immunized WILL be as soon as they are enrolled into a school system...as we parents know, you do NOT get past the school nurse "nazi" (in awe of her, I am!), and if they must, they will have the school doctor administer the immunizations...

That's what I thought. I have also done some volunteer work at a center where all of the children had "free" health care. The problem wasn't services it was irresponsible parents. And what was more aggravating was that the clinics did everything in terms of setting up schedules, doctors visits and all of the rest. Was that enough for them? Heck no, the parent complained about getting a ride or some other personal inconvenience.
