I tend to agree with your 65% figure. Social Security doesn't mean as much to younger folks as it does to those who've lived 60 years with the promise of Social Security being there for them. Younger people now are more economy-savvy than the average younger person thirty years ago, I would wager, and they know about earning more outside the SS system.
