The fact that these studies "suggest" rather than verify leads me to think there is an intermediate characteristic that should be identified.
For example, could it be possible that these genes are connected with a narcissistic personality? My hypothesis is that there is a high link between narcissism and all gender identity disorders, including same-sex attraction disorder. Not all narcissists are gay, but I would hypothesize that a high percentage of gay men are narcissists.
