Genes Linked With Male Sexual Orientation Found

The genes a man gets from his mother and father may play an important role in determining whether he is gay or not, according to a new study likely to reignite the “gay gene” debate.

Researchers say it’s the first time the entire human genetic makeup (search) has been scanned in search of possible genetic determinants of male sexual orientation. The results suggest that several genetic regions may influence homosexuality.

“It builds on previous studies that have consistently found evidence of genetic influence on sexual orientation, but our study is the first to look at exactly where those genes are located,” says researcher Brian Mustanski, PhD, a psychologist at the University of Illinois at Chicago.

Those previous studies looked only at the genes located on the X chromosome (search). Genes on this chromosome are only passed to a son from his mother. But this study examined genetic information on all chromosomes, including genes from the father.

I wonder how this will figure in the abortion debate.

This is good, it proves that some at least is curable with gene therapy. Boy, I'm going to get out the popcorn for this one.

If true, gays will turn from pro-choice to pro-life very soon.

So if they get their gay genes from their fathers, how did they ever get to be born in the first place...? ;)

Liberals - what hypocrites!

When they want it something to be genetic - I don't know, say, HOMOSEXUALITY, then they can't talk enough about heredity, DNA, etc.

Of course, better not talk about how intelligence might be related to genes.

Otherwise, liberals might get the vapors.

I've always been attracted to women. Has anybody found the normal gene? And now that I'm married and have children, who has found the pay-the-bills gene?

In the study, researchers analyzed the genetic makeup of 456 men from 146 families with two or more gay brothers. The genetic scans showed a clustering of the same genetic pattern among the gay men on three chromosomes -- chromosomes 7, 8, and 10. These common genetic patterns were shared by 60 percent of the gay men in the study. This is slightly more than the 50 percent expected by chance alone.

First, how did the other 40% become gay? Second, might the increased percentage be due to the fact that THESE PEOPLE ARE RELATED TO EACH OTHER. Obviously you will find higher percentages of some things than others, when compared to chance, because chance wouldn't produce a group with such a high number of close relations. How hard is that to see?

It's too bad this couldn't be discovered before Sodom and Gommorah turned "gay" (my capitulation to the politically correct word in lieu of Sodomite, Homosexual, pervert, etc.)

If you locate, please let me know. Can you be a full grown human and get 'gene therapy'?

Just the usual BS to try and normalize homosexuality.

OK what will be the Liberal whine now:
Scenerio: All babies are born to HETERO couples who want hetero children. "Gay" gene babies are likely to be aborted.
So whats more important?
The gay child's right to life?
Or the woman's right to choose?

Whats a liberal to do? Will a gay gene discovery eliminate gays from the earth once and for all?

For the record, I'm against abortion. AND I do not believe in a gay gene. I just like to throw this in liberal faces.

Those are the kind of genes that would cure homosexuality in any man.

Show this to John Waters, he might change his orientation.
