Poles vote Bush world politician of 2004 Big News Network Monday 31st January, 2005 (UPI)

U.S. President George Bush has been voted Poland's top World Politician of the Year for the third straight year.

Polling agency CBOS asked 1,089 adults between Jan. 7 and Jan. 10 to name the world leaders who most commanded their respect in 2004.

Ukraine's new, reformist President Viktor Yushchenko was second followed by United Nations Secretary General Kofi Annan and German Chancellor Gerhard Schroeder.

Poland is one of the United States' most loyal allies in the European Union. Prior to the U.S. elections in November, opinion polls showed Poland to be one of the few countries in the world where people favored Bush over his Democratic rival Sen. John Kerry.

Thank God for Poland and a handful of former Soviet satellites. Otherwise Europe would be a completely worthless continent.

I find it interesting, as a third generation Polski, that Kofi Annan was highly respected. It should make anyone shudder that some back in Poland view a hack like him respectable. Outside of that, the choice was exquisite.

Who would we trade them in to? No one wants them. Maybe Kofi.

With allies like Israel and Poland, among others, who needs Western Europe? How is it the Poles can see so well from so far?

I'm shocked that the Poles didn't mention the greatest leader in the world today, Jacques Chiraq.

They are among the few that actually opened their eyes.
