During the early to mid 1980s I worked for General Dynamics in Ft. Worth Texas maker of the F-16 Flying Falcon and previously the F-111. It is now a division of Lockheed Martin. I worked in the stealth groups that analyzed RADAR signatures of military components. One of our short range sites was close to the boresight range where technicians would calibrate the Gatlin machine gun on each F-16 as part of its final checkout.

The control system for our RADAR rannge was 100-200 feet away from the machine gun range. Several times, I and my co workers would nearly crap our collective pants when we would hear the 0.5 second burst of fire power. It didn't matter to try and dunk or cover your ears. By the time you hear the start of the test, by the time you turn around and look, all that's left is a cloud of smoke wafting above the dirt bunker that caught all the flack. It was incredible.

I remember pilots telling us that the gun would cause the jet to vear to one side from the recoil.

Good video. Star Wars comes to mind.

That is what first popped in my mind. Those tracers look very much like Star Wars Blaster Fire.

I worked with the F-16 for decades and have never seen one that was equipped with a "Gatling Gun". You're probably talking about the A-10, Warthog.

The F-16 is so fast, it would probably shoot itself down if it had such a gun.

The F-16 gun is a 20 mm. The one the A-10 is built around (yep!) is a 30 mm. That one makes it feel like the aircraft is hitting a a wall. In the early flight tests there were all sorts of problems with the gun gases being ingested into the engines and causing flame outs.
