The husband broke his marriage vows and now forfeits that right.

Terri does a lot of responding for a dead girl. I've never seen a corpse who can laugh at his/her fathers's jokes.

The family has offerd to buy Michael off. He won't bite.

There is evidence that Michael traumatized Terri by physically abusing her (x-rays from 1991). The family has even offered NOT to pursue charges against him for possible abuse and attempted murder. He still won't bite. Perhaps he fears if evidence is compiled against him the family won't be able to stop the authorities from his prosecution.

However, there is definitely a POWER and CONTROL thing (on Michael's part) occurring here and also the Euthanasia crowd has much at stake in Terri's case.

"I'm curious: a lot has been made about money being a possible factor in Michael's decision: is it possible to buy Michael Shiavo off? Not that I'd like to see him get it, but I'd give $50 to the cause."

Michael has turned down money. More info at this link:

hate to break it to you, but terry has been dead for a long time. Let her rest in peace. We all have to let a loved one go. Once your married it should be the husbands decision, not the parents.

It should be *your* decision, even if you're unconscious at the time. We hate to think about the worst-case scenario, but it's better to deal with it now than to leave our loved ones to fight over it later.

If Terri Schiavo had drafted a living will, her wishes would be clear, and her parents wouldn't be engaged in a death struggle with her husband. They wouldn't be fighting over something she might have said some time.

If you want to honor Terri, or her memory, put your own wishes in writing now. Whether you want to let go or to fight to the last breath, make your intentions clear and unambiguous. Keep the people you love from hating each other.

I will not argue that in most circumstances, the spouse is usually the one to make this decision. However, I would have to differ from you on a few points which I believe are valid.

Terri is not dead, nor brain-dead. If she were, she would not be able to do any of the things she currently does. The description that she is is a coma is also incorrect. She came out of her coma within a month or two of her initial injury. It may have at one time been appropriate to call her state vegetative, however a better term for her condition is minimally conscious. IOW, she has been emerging and continues to emerge from the "persistent vegetative state", which is, in truth, a misnomer.

Next, I'd like to suggest to you that if the husband were of the likes of Scott Peterson, and if he botched the job on Laci, he would not be a suitable person to use as the decision-maker. Terri's initial collapse has never been adequately explained, and the law enforcement dropped the ball when they failed to complete their investigation of homicide, which was the initial explanation. Somewhere that investigation stalled, and Terri's bone-scan showed that she had undergone some sort of trauma, (she had a broken femur among many mnay bones broken in various stages of healing). A beating or horrific struggle would explain Terri's injuries far better than an "eating disorder".

Third, because Michael has from the very beginning violated many guardianship laws, he should have been removed as her guardian long, long ago. That he wasn't is a stain against the integrity of the judicial system as well.

If you would please look at information about Terri's case at http://www.terrisfight.org ,you would see that this is not your ordinary case, but something far different than what the mainstream media will tell you.

Well stated.
In today's The Washington Times (Feb. 1, 2005, p. A16) the is an offensive letter to the editor by Eric Stetson of Burke. Either he is totally misinformed or simply lying, but he actually claims that Terri is in a vegetative state. He goes on to argue why Christians should send Terri to heaven to be with God.

At no point does Eric Stetson make a reference to how horrible it is to be starved to death; to her estranged husband with his mistress and illegitimate children and a financial gains being her guardian; to the fact that what caused Terri's condition was never investigated (might well have been attempted murder); that the estranged husband has been fighting giving a deposition; etc.

Terri is housed at the Woodside Hospice in St. Pete, however, DO NOT send cards to her there. Michael has instructions for any cards, flowers, etc. to be disposed of. It's much better to send them to the foundation where her family can get them and bring them to her. Here's the address:

The Terri Schindler-Schiavo Foundation
4615 Gulf Blvd - #104/103
St Petersburg Beach, FL 33706
