Actually, this may be (but probably isn't) true for the average murder victim, but I (and most people) are very different from the average murder victim.

I don't live in a bad neighborhood, I don't sell drugs, and I don't associate with criminals. I pick the "someones I know" very carefully, and would hazard that I and most sensible Americans, if murdered, are most likely not to know our killers.

I'd be interested in seeing how this study would come out if limited to murder victims with no criminal record.

8 years ago a fellow in my town, in driving by his church at night saw teenage white kids selling drugs out of a car to subteen black kids on the church property. The third time he saw it he stopped his car and walked up to the miscreants' car and stuck his .22 revolver in the face of the youth at the wheel. He said that the boys should leave right now and not come back ever again because he would not call the police the next time as that would be too slow. There has been no drug activity on church grounds since then.

The alternative was to see myself as less of a man for not handling my own business. When I stand before the Man in Judgement at the Pearly and my life is played out before me, two things will not ever show up. I never kissed anyone ass and I was never a pussy.

I know and it sickens me. Used to be that a man could take it into his own hands to set things right. Of course this was when it was not a sin to be a man like it is now. Matt Dillon, Sergeant Saunders (from the "Combat" series), Josh Randall (played by Steve McQueen Wanted: Dead or Alive) used to be our TV heros. Now men are asking fags how to dress on TV. It used to be a rite of passage to finally grow a set and knock a bully on his ass in school after being tormented endlessly. Now you have the cops called on you for using your crayons to draw a gun. But there is a bright light on the horizon. Our young men will return from Iraq and teach their sons what a man is, so there is still hope.

Gun nuts love to quote the Second Amendment, or at least they love to quote the second half. In its entirety, the Second Amendment reads, "A well regulated Militia being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed."

Certainly a target rich environment in this scribbling.

Interestingly while Robert Schiering excoriates “gun nuts” and the NRA for not paying attention to the nonrestrictive clause at the beginning of the Second Amendment, he seems to have neglected to include the comma after the word “Militia” in the same clause.

No doubt a mistake and simple oversight, but it does seem to happen mainly to people who want to ban guns.

Personally I don't think breaking into someone's house and sticking a gun in some guy's face and threatening to kill him because he stole some of your tools makes you a man. I'd say that makes you a criminal and gives the rest of us responsible gun owners a bad name. It's also the type of thing that's liable to get you or some innocent person killed or hurt real bad. But suit yourself.
