There's been a lot of talk over the past few years that billie-j would aspire to the office of Secretary-General of the UN.
I always disputed it as a lost cause, since no member-State of the Security Council, having veto-power, could ever have one of their citizens running the show!
I've been challenged by the beautiful and talented Mata Sherry to back-up my claims!
Well! I spent about four hours trying to find the info on the UN website, and I can't find jack-shit!
So I'm calling for help. Where is it written that the USA CANNOT put a candidate up for election to the office of Secretary-General of the UN?
This POS needs to be re-located to Iceland or Rwanda, but first, cut-off their electricity, water, and sewage!
Get these two-bit, thieving bastards out of our Country!.............FRegards.........Barry/gonzo
DITTO!! DITTO! DITTO!!!!
Get the US out of the UN and the UN out of the US!!
I guess this is a pang, I mean a ping........FRegards
I think BJ would be a great UN Secretary General and I think he should get the job right after Kofi's tour is up in 2006.
They could inaugurate him two day before we boot the whole bunch outa here and send them packing to Ghana.
It's a dream for some, a nightmre to us, but I don't think it's gonna happen. I suspect (without looking into it) Russia and China especially will be very much against it.
waaall..i always said wjc was too stupid to be the antichrist unless he runs for sec'y-gen..but then he announced so he's back on the list..
un in reykjavik would be nice!!
Read the UN Charter.
It is (aledgedly) in there.
china owns bill clinton. i'm not sure why they wouldn't be thrilled to have him in there.
The U.N. and Clinton deserve each other. Both are globally popular, mealy mouthed, and ineffective on the world stage.
Let's hope Bill gets the top spot. Americans will never elect Hillary with him leading the UN.(Of course then he will just step down, montag! Yes it's true, those two are pretty damn good at this game, arent they)
(we like to poke fun at arkansaw any way we can y'know)
the hill-billy dynamic duo looks poised to take both seats, sorry..
best bet is, (?) push thru the arnold amendment and let it also waive prez term limits, then you have gwb-wjc head-to-head..
so crazy it might happen.
hey, this is fun!
Both are globally popular, mealy mouthed, and ineffective on the world stage
Unfortunately, they have been VERY effective....at the wrong things....
Good point. "The Manchurian Candidate For Secretary-General"
Ask Bill O'Reilly??? Wasn't He was suggeting recently that Clinton should be the head of the U.N. or some such thing? Personally, I've thought we should have got out of the U.N.nearly 40 years ago to be perfectly honest!
To what?
It is not going to happen; a voting member has NEVER had the Sec Gen.
Bush would have to agree; it's not going to happen.
And it's Asia's turn.
Actually, it's not.
There has been from the outset, however, an unofficial "gentleman's agreement" that no permanent member of the Security Council (i.e., those with vetos) may also have one of its citizens serving as Secretary-General.
Actually, it's not.
There has been since 1945, however, an unofficial "gentleman's agreement" that no permanent member of the Security Council (i.e., those with vetos) may also have one of its citizens serving as Secretary-General.
I found the following at what appears to be the UN's FAQ page - http://www.un.org.pk/unic/faq.htm#q20:
"How is the Secretary-General appointed?
The Secretary-General is appointed by the General Assembly, on the recommendation of the Security Council. The Secretary-General's selection is therefore subject to the veto of any of the five permanent members of the Council.
The first two Secretaries-General were Trygve Lie of Norway and Dag Hammarskjöld of Sweden. In the past 40 years, countries have informally agreed to rotate the office among the regional groups. It has thus passed from Asia (U Thant of Burma, now Myanmar), to Western Europe (Kurt Waldheim of Austria), to Latin America (Javier Pérez de Cuéllar of Peru), to Africa (Boutros Boutros-Ghali of Egypt, who served one term, and Kofi Annan of Ghana, the current Secretary-General). Although there is technically no limit to the number of five-year terms a Secretary-General may serve, none so far has held office for more than two terms."
We've taken it as a given for years, but I want to find out where it's written down. Please help, because I think we're gonna need this info. Stay well--- Smootches, Nita...............Barry/gonzo
