I am not so sure it is a choice. I think there is some 'sexual identity' conditioning in early childhood that does influence and screw up the psyche. There is always the choice to abstain...but I am sure that is out of the question!!

I can't say for sure if it's always a choice, but it should be made clear to the kids that it's either a curse or a horribly wrong choice.
