Americans for Fair Taxation ^

CONGRESSMAN STEVE KING INTRODUCES RESOLUTION TO ELIMINATE IRS

WASHINGTON - As W-2s arrive in mailboxes this week, U.S. Congressman Steve King has introduced a resolution to repeal the 16th Amendment to the Constitution, which gives Congress the authority to collect income taxes.

H.J. Res. 16 would eliminate the IRS and the means for the government to collect income taxes.

"The IRS is an out-of-date, trillion-dollar-a-year drag on our economy," said King. "Instead of continuing to band-aid our complicated, leaking tax system year after year, we can choose a permanent solution and finally rid Americans of the fat leech they feed their paychecks to."

King has been a long-time supporter of the FairTax, a national sales tax placed on goods and services, which would replace the income tax.

H.J. Res. 16 must be approved by two-thirds of both the House and Senate, and then sent to the states, where three-fourths must ratify the amendment.

This is an historic event, for our country, and also for me personally.

Congressman Steve King is an old and dear friend of mine; and we spent many hours, many years back before he was ever elected to anything, sitting together and hashing out this issue.

Now we must make it happen...

Does anyone seriously think that 2/3 of congress will approve this?

I prefer actual results over political parlor tricks.

Oh yeah! If there was ever an Amendment I could support, it would be a repeal of the 16th!

No its not going to happen. But its the beginning of a process that hopefully will lead to the abolition of the income tax and the disappearance of the IRS.

The first thing I thought was, "Who's King Bill?"

The monarch who confused his cigar with his scepter?

I like this fellow King.

If the uproar is great enough the Congress will consider it.

I'm contacting my representatives!

This sure beats wasting political capital (and time/money) over a gay marriage Amendment or trying, to give naturalized citizens (i.e. Governator) the right to become POTUS.

No use contacting my rep - Tammy Baldwin. She's hopeless on any issue that might let us keep our paychecks intact.

Among the "actual results" we have so far are prescription medicine entitlements, "no child left behind", and an immigration initiative that is amnesty by another name. If these are "actual results", give me parlor tricks any time. At least they're less expensive.
