You mention something that had not occurred to me before, the desecration of "holy places of non-muslim faith", but I would like to point out to you that they have been blowing up mosques as well, and the majority of their victims are Muslims. This is in itself pretty good evidence to me that those terrorists are merely cloaking themselves in Islam and twisting it's messages in order to further POLITICAL goals, and that it has little to do with truly promoting Islam itself. THEY may say they are fighting for Allah, but I doubt Allah would agree. Christian inquisitions, Islamic Terrorism, Atheists banning God... all caused not by religion, but by religious INTOLERANCE. now some wish to commit the same sin and blame Islam for terrorists. That is BULLSHIT. Just another cop-out... do not blame that kid.. he had a bad childhood, too few opportunities, a screwed up religion... it is not HIS fault. Blaming Islam takes responsibility from those who are guilty, the f***ers who are building and setting off the bombs.

Then why has there been overwhelming silence from the Muslim community? If they are intimidated, it cannot be from just a few. Just wondering.

Though it has not been hardly overwhelming, I have heard numerous Muslims who HAVE condemned the terrorist actions. The fact that it has been so few comparatively could be the result of several factors. One factor which probably accounts for it is simple ambivalence. Not protesting a thing does not necessarily mean ya support it, it just means that in the balance of things, you do not think it is worth speaking out about.
An example, back in the days when we had segregation and such, not all whites were particularly IN FAVOR of segregation or such things, but for many many years almost NO white people said anything about it. Now, I may be wrong, but I do not think ALL white folks were a bunch of redneck racists, so why the silence? Could part of it have been simply that it did not seem worth it to place yourself in the cross-hairs when your not really sure who among your neighbors may turn out to be your enemy tomorrow... especially when you would be sticking your neck out and maybe endangering your family for people you do not even know? Many may just decide that while they do not like a thing, it is just not worth sticking their necks on the block for.
You must also keep in mind that the vast majority of people in the middle-east are getting VERY distorted news. Ya ever watched Al Jazeera or some of the others? It sounds like news broadcasts from another planet. As far as the vast majority of Muslims go, most of them do not ever hear about a lot of the things the terrorists do, and who their targets and victims are. All things considered, I cannot blame a man for being willing to kill and die for a cause he truly believes is right. Problem is the cannon fodder over there are being told a load of BS by their leaders, secular, religious, and otherwise.

I appreciate your response, but find it weak. Muslims in our country are aware of what happened on 9/11 and have access to the same information we all do.

As far a comparing it to segregation, I think that's a flat arguement in light of the fact the pendulum has completely swung the other way in 40 years. Hate crimes can now only be attributed to whites. So, the culture of comparison is null, imo.

I do not have access to al-jazeerra but I do run into articles posted on their website. To clarify my original post, I looked for response from Muslims in this country. I understand more fully over the last 4 years, how biased the media is around the world, so prior to 9/11, was truly not aware how they were an arm of indocrination and hatred.

"...in order to further POLITICAL goals..."

Oh, I agree wholeheartedly. Politics is always and only about power, and it is politics that drives all wars, and that has always driven all wars. Depending on the deities worshipped, political leaders have sometimes cloaked themselves in some religious expediency, but there's no such thing as a religious war, regardless of what the Looney Left says now and has always said in the past.
