GAZA CITY (AFP) - Palestinian Islamist militant movement Hamas said that it was not bound by the ceasefire announced by Palestinian leader Mahmud Abbas at a Middle East peace summit in Egypt.

|
Abbas's declaration "expresses only the position of the Palestinian Authority (news - web sites). It does not express the position of the Palestinian movements," said Hamas spokesman Mushir al-Masri.
In Beirut, Hamas spokesman Osama Hamdaneh said the ceasefire pledge "does not commit the Palestinian resistance."
Hamas, which has been behind many of the deadliest anti-Israeli attacks during the four-year Palestinian uprising, and other armed groups have nevertheless agreed to a temporary "cooling down" period.
At the summit in the Red Sea resort of Sharm el-Sheikh, Abbas and Israeli Prime Minister Ariel Sharon (news - web sites) agreed to ceasefires aimed at ending the deadly violence and paving the way for a revival of the Middle East peace process.
But Masri said the Palestinians should have been consulted before any such announcement.
"(Hamas) is maintaining its position. There will not be a real truce with Israel without real reciprocity," he said.
"We will act on the truce depending on the commitment by the Zionist enemy to meet our conditions, starting with all Palestinian prisoners."
khilafah.com chimes in with this article (the second half is where it gets interesting) and the warning:
Palestine - Circles in the Sand
Muslims should reject any treaty or declaration that supposes permanent Israeli ownership of any part of Palestine back to the 1914 borders. In the next two years, a second Oslo agreement may be negotiated. Ten years from now the next Intafada may be under way.
Ping.
Well, that didn't take long...
Hamas would not feel bound by its own signature on a ceasefire, and a PA ceasefire will only serve to motivate more killing of civilians.
There will never, never, never be peace in the ME, as long as Israel exists. muslim garbage are sworn to destroy her. Ceding land to muslims is suicide.
I had a feeling that Hamas would do this---they want to make Abbas be seen to have no power over them---
I think they will step up the violence and send in some suicide bombers IN ORDER to prove it--
This cease fire will prolly end up causing the death of more Israelis, I am afraid...
This is no slam on Rice or Bush or even Sharon for trying, but Abbas is lying through his teeth when he tells America that he wants peace...
Hamas is declaring itself an outlaw band.
Wow this must be a record ceasefire. It lasted what, 20, 30 minutes. Next time guys why not go for the gold and have a ceasefire that last an hour.
Yep, in about 3-6 months, Hamas or Islamic Jihad will get PO'd at PP (pali prez) and/or Israel. While Israel's at the peace table (or valuable land concessions made), all h*ll will break loose and lots of innocents will be bombed to kingdom come after Israel lets down its guard.
I see Abbas as just another politician like ours---he will do and say anything to get elected. It is what he does afterwards that counts---
Here in America, if a politician goes back on campaign promises, the worst thing that happens is a recall, or loss next time election comes up---
Over there, it is prolly death threats to politician and/or family---then more likely than not, assasination. Therefore, I am sure that over there, we cannot even begin to really KNOW how Abbas is gonna rule.
It's easy to see that Lebanon & Syria are just using Palestinians as an excuse to kill innocent people for religious reasons. The Palestinians have elected a leader and he wants peace. If Lebanon & Syria use Hamas to deny them their wishes, then Israeli and Palestine should start killing leaders in Lebanon & Syria, they want war-give them war.
Israel keep track of the Hamas leaders so when the time comes you can get them all at once.
So if they are not bound, I'm assume the Israelis can keep hunting down and killing the group's leaders.
I'll believe Abbas wants peace when he declares war on the Hamas types.
